results indicate that the prototype rivets can accommodate
a higher degree of flaring before fractures occur. A bottom
viewof the rivet (Fig. 3b) demonstrates the ability of the rivet
to sustain significant flare without fractures forming. Assess-
ment of alternative alloys including 4340 and other ultra-
high-strength steel alloys is ongoing.
