Rigaku Analytical Devices, Wilming-

ton,Mass., launchedKatana,

ahandheld

laser-induced breakdown spectrosco-

py (LIBS) analyzer.

It enables durable

and accurate alloy identification for use

in scrap metal sorting, quality assurance

in metal fabrication, and positive mate-

rial identification in petrochemical op-

erations. The device was engineered to

address analysis and usability gaps that

similar handheld metal analyzers do not

meet. Katana provides an alternative for

more accurate identification of a larger

number of alloys in a ruggedized form.

The device has an IP54 rating, protecting

against dusty and harsh work environ-

ments encountered in scrap recycling

yards.

plements the Wilson VH3100 system

and expands the company’s range of

automatic Vickers/Knoop hardness

testers.

The new system excels in ac-

curately measuring both very high and/

or very low test loads. The VH3300 fea-

tures an extensive variety of scales and

magnifications and is suitable for ad-

vanced heat treatment processes found

in the aerospace, energy, construction,

and transportation industries. The sys-

tem is equipped with patent-pending

collision protection technology, a high-

speed sample stage, and DiaMet univer-

TMC, Peabody, Mass., a division of

Ametek Inc., introduces Everstill K-400,

a compact,

benchtop active vibra-

tion cancellation system.

The unit is

well suited for small, lightweight, ultra-

precision instruments, including optical

microscopes, scanning probe micro-

scopes, and metrology instruments, and

helps those tools achieve superior res-

olution. The system starts to isolate at

0.7Hzanddeliversdramaticvibrationcan-

cellation, especially in the critical 1-10 Hz

range. Everstill achieves this performance

through an active “hard-mount” with

serial-type architecture.
