International Materials Applications & Technologies ACADEMIA GOVERNMENT INDUSTRY Sep t embe r 1 4 - 1 7, 2020 C l eve l and , Oh i o SOLVING GLOBAL MATERIALS CHALLENGES Dear Members and Friends of ASM International, It is with great pleasure and anticipation that we report our progress to date on the upcoming debut of IMAT 2020—the International Materials Applications & Technologies Conference and Exhibition. ASM’s new fall event will be held in Cleveland from September 14-17, 2020, and will include a comprehensive lineup of technical sessions, education courses, high level keynotes, networking events, and an exhibit floor. The conference theme, Solving Global Materials Challenges, will feature programming specifically designed to appeal to materials professionals from industry, academia, and government. Planning is well underway with the ASM Programming Committees, AeroMat Committee, Women in Engineering Committee, Emerging Professionals Committee, and all six of ASM’s Affiliate Societies heavily involved in building the technical symposiums. Programming will have a strong focus on application-oriented, real-world technologies that can be put to use today. In addition to ASM resources, other materials sectors will be represented by our media partner Ceramic Industry, who will provide valuable content from this important market segment, and NACE International, who will deliver critical information on corrosion control topics. Participating ASM affiliates include the Electronic Device Failure Analysis Society, Failure Analysis Society, Heat Treating Society, International Metallographic Society, Shape Memory and Superelastic Technologies, and Thermal Spray Society. The new ASM fall meeting will also have broad appeal to a wider demographic than ever—with activities and programming specifically designed for precollege STEM students, graduate and undergraduate students, and both emerging and seasoned professionals. IMAT promises to be an industry-focused conference and exposition targeted at advanced materials, processes, and applications—all addressing a spectrum of emerging technologies in key growth markets. The exposition will encompass major OEMs, materials suppliers, producers, and corporate partners to deliver cutting edge technology with hands-on educational workshops and demonstrations to further professional development and offer practical materials solutions. Core areas such as metals, ceramics, coatings, and composites will be covered along with newer areas including energymaterials and renewables for power and transportation. Hot topics such as additive manufacturing, materials informatics, biomaterials, and sustainability will also be well represented in the technical sessions. With the 2020 conference slated for Cleveland, the event will include a special Dinner Under the Dome. Attendees will have the opportunity to visit the famous geodesic dome—ASM International’s headquarters—a National Historic Landmark designed by T.C. Howard and Buckminster Fuller and built in 1959. During this dinner event and throughout the conference, attendees will be able to network and tour the iconic building and also visit ASM’s state-of-the-art teaching laboratories, completely renovated in 2016. In addition, an exciting social event will be held at the world famous Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Look for more information in the months ahead as we continue to finalize the technical programming. If youhave any questions, feel free to contact us at any time. We look forward to seeing you at IMAT 2020!
