Sangid Wins Early
Career Award
Michael D. Sangid,
an assis-
tant professor in Purdue Univer-
sity’s School of Aeronautics and
Astronautics, received the Min-
erals, Metals and Materials Soci-
ety’s Early Career Faculty Fellow
Award. His research focuses on
integrated computational materi-
als engineering with models that
can simulate material behavior at the crystal level. Sangid,
who joined Purdue as an assistant professor in 2012, leads
the Advanced Computational Materials and Experimental
Evaluation (ACME) Laboratory. The ACME group combines
computational modeling and in situ experiments to solve
complex applied problems in aerospace materials.
Beaman, Kalpakjian
Honored by SME
SME recognized seven professionals

Beaman, a professor in the
mechanical engineering department at
The University of Texas, Austin, is receiv-
ing the 2016 SME Albert M. Sargent Prog-
ress Award “for pioneering, developing,
commercializing, andmaking his research
widely available in laser sintering, and
for advancing the field of additive man-
ufacturing through leadership, research,
