Tuition of up to $10,000 for the academic year is awarded through this scholarship. Eden Hall Colorado School of Mines Eden Hall is a senior majoring in metallurgical and materials engineering at Colorado School of Mines. She currently serves as treasurer for the university’s Materials Advantage chapter, a senior teaching assistant for the school’s Introduction to Bladesmithing course, a member of the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society, and a service dog raiser for Canine Companions. With a previous summer spent as a metallurgical intern at the OceanaGold Haile Gold Mine, Hall plans to pursue a career in extractive metallurgy after graduation. George A. Roberts Scholarships The George A. Roberts Scholarships were established in 1995 through a generous contribution from Dr. George A. Roberts, FASM, past president and retired CEO of Teledyne, to the ASM Foundation as an expression of his commitment to education and the materials science and engineering community. Scholarships are awarded to outstanding undergraduate members of ASM at the junior or senior level who demonstrate exemplary academic and personal achievements, and interest and potential in metallurgy or materials science and engineering. Five scholars will receive a certificate and check for $6000 toward educational expenses for one academic year. Evan Birky Iowa State University Evan Birky is a senior studying materials science and engineering at Iowa State University. He assists with research at Ames National Laboratory, working on projects such as powder synthesis and the development of high-entropy alloys. Birky is passionate about improving aircraft capabilities and hopes to develop new hypersonic-capable materials and bring them to the commercial sector. On campus, he serves as the risk management chair of the ISU Material Advantage chapter. Birky has completed internships at Caterpillar and Boeing, with projects including the design of a metallurgical laboratory for iterative testing and comprehensive failure analysis on aluminum components to prevent future defects. Manuel Alejandro Bucio Sevilla Instituto Tecnológico de Morelia Manuel Alejandro Bucio Sevilla is a materials engineering student at Tecnológico Nacional de México, Campus Morelia. He is a member of the ASM Mexico Chapter and the student chapter of AIST at Tecnológico de Morelia (Material Advantage). His involvement in ASM DomesDay 2024 was a key milestone, where he participated in Leadership Day 2025 and won the Best Destruction Award, DomesDay 2025, and Strong Bar 2025. In 2026, he presented a project at Heat Treat Mexico, earning second place. He recently completed a summer internship at FRISA Steel, where he worked on developing innovative projects in steel manufacturing. Isabella Ellis Colorado School of Mines Isabella Ellis is a senior at the Colorado School of Mines, studying metallurgical and materials science engineering. She serves as secretary for her school’s Material Advantage chapter and vice president for the Keramos Chapter, as well as serving on the planning committee for Engineering Days. Ellis manages the physical metallurgy lab and was awarded Student Employee of the Year in 2025 for her work and dedication in making the lab a safer environment. She conducts undergraduate research in battery recyclability via selective electrodeposition and works as a junior associate at Moonin Associates. Ellis plans to find a job in extractive metallurgy after graduation. Truman Ingersoll University of Minnesota Twin Cities Truman Ingersoll is a junior majoring in materials science and engineering at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. Coming from a family of foundry workers, Ingersoll has had a passion for metallurgy and materials science and engineering since he was young. He has interned for the Waupaca Foundry, a cast iron foundry in Waupaca, Wisconsin. Currently, Ingersoll conducts research for the University of Minnesota’s Electronic, Magnetic, and Photonic Materials research group, studying novel magnetic properties of crystalline metallic oxides. He is also active in his school’s Material Advantage chapter, leading their award-winning bladesmithing team. SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS
