As this was the chapter’s first in-person program since the start of the pandemic in 2020, there was an overwhelming response. More than 140 delegates participated and six faculty members of ASM Chennai delivered lectures on the principles of heat treatment, processes, induction hardening, vacuum heat treatment, troubleshooting in HT, CQI 9, and furnace maintenance. Participant feedback was excellent. Milwaukee Hosts Trustee Visit John Kuli, ASM treasurer, made a Board of Trustees visit to the Milwaukee Chapter on February 14. He presented a talk on “Development of Highly Formable Copper Connecter Alloy,” which was well received by the attendees. The Chapter presented him with a 2019 Milwaukee Chapter 100th Anniversary stein as a thank you gift. MEMBERS IN THE NEWS National Academy of Engineering Honors ASM Members In February, the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) elected 106 new members and 18 international members. Among the inductees are several ASM members: David U. Furrer, FASM, senior fellow discipline lead, Materials and Processes, Pratt & Whitney, East Hartford, Conn., for development and industrial implementation of computational modeling tools enabling efficient material/process/product design of legacy and emerging aerospace alloys. Carlos G. Levi, Mehrabian Distinguished Professor, Materials Department, University of California, Santa Barbara, for contributions to under- standing and development of high-temperature engineered surfaces and multilayers used in advanced gas turbine engines. Alan Luo, FASM, director, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, The Ohio State University, Columbus, for implementation of lightweight aluminum, magnesium, and titanium materials and advanced manufacturing processes for automotive applications. Ji-Cheng (JC) Zhao, FASM, department chair and Minta Martin Professor of Engineering, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, University of Maryland, College Park, for contributions to computational alloy design, integrated computational materials engineering, and high-throughput methods used in industrial products. Election to NAE is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer. Academy membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to engineering research, practice, or education. An induction ceremony for the NAE Class of 2023 will be held on October 1 at the Academy’s annual meeting in Washington. John Kuli, center, with Milwaukee Chapter members at their February meeting.
