It is a privilege for us to organize this event in Canada. In addition to being held in stunningly beautiful Québec City (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), ITSC 2023 offers a fantastic lineup: We have an amazing 3.5-day, fully packed program with a distinguished keynote speaker, outstanding presenters and papers, TSS and ITSC awards ceremonies, a live version of the TSS Open Mic Series, the Young Professionals Competition, and numerous opportunities for networking with colleagues and exhibitors. For the keynote session, we are delighted to introduce Dr. Sonia Tulyani, executive director for Materials and Process Engineering at Pratt & Whitney. Her presentation is entitled “Advanced Materials for Sustainable Aviation.” She will discuss the transition of the aerospace gas turbine industry toward hydrogen and sustainable aviation fuels, as well as the novel materials and coatings solutions needed to meet propulsion performance requirements. With respect to conference presentations, we expect a total of 350 papers including 322 oral podiums and 28 posters. We are proud to announce that, at this time, all authors who requested oral presentations were granted podiums. ASM-TSS is thrilled to give this coveted podium opportunity to so many of our esteemed colleagues. In addition, we are elated to report that these 322 oral presentations set a new record for TSS-led ITSC events over the last 10 years. We are proud of this accomplishment. To honor those who have contributed above-and-beyond to our thermal spray global community, and those who have shown the greatest scientific breakthroughs during the conference, the TSS and ITSC awards ceremonies will recognize these significant accomplishments. I hope you will join us to congratulate these exceptional professionals. And for the very first time, we are proud to present a live version of the TSS Open Mic Series at ITSC. The TSS Open Mic webinar series, featuring a talk show format, was created at the peak of the pandemic in 2020. It provides students, emerging professionals, and experts alike with a rare opportunity to interact with the most influential leaders in the global thermal spray community. During each free, webbased broadcast, we have virtual attendees representing 30+ countries, on average. At ITSC 2023, attendees will have the unique opportunity to seewell established thermal spray professionals expressing themselves in a more informal way—face-to-face. As a continuing ITSC tradition, we are honored to host the Young Professionals (YP) competition. The Oerlikon Metco YP session is designed to encourage participation of thermal spray students in ITSC. The session features a competition-based award and recognition program. It is important to point out that no other ITSC event occurs in parallel during the YP session. Therefore, it exposes these young researchers to the full strength of ITSC and all of its players. This year, 17 students will compete for the award. The YP contest is without a doubt one of the highlights of the conference. As always, the ever-expanding ITSC Exposition will continue to offer participants access to the leading industrial players of the thermal spray community. To date, 82 booths have been reserved by 59 companies (and counting). On the expo floor, you will find global leaders in everything related to thermal spraying. The most important representatives of equipment/feedstock manufacturing, auxiliary material/device suppliers, sensor developers, and thermal spray service centers will be at the exhibition hall. It is a must see. Finally, ITSC 2023 will offer powerful connection and collaboration opportunities throughout the week. From the welcome reception with exhibitors on Monday to a special networking event on Tuesday evening, along with coffee breaks and lunches in the exhibition hall, attendees can grow their professional network and build business relationships with key contacts in the thermal spray industry, academia, and government. The who’s who of thermal spray will be there. ITSC 2023 will be held on May 22-25 at the Québec City Convention Centre. To learnmore, visit https://www.asminternational.org/web/itsc-2023/home. I look forward to seeing you there. On behalf of the staff and volunteers of ASM-TSS, I am very pleased to say, “Welcome to ITSC 2023!” Rogerio S.
