Earle, FASM, announces the nominees for ASM vice president and trustee for 2018-19 and three members of the Board of Trustees for 2018-21. In accordance with the ASM Constitution, these nom- inees will be voted on at the ASM Annual Business Meeting on October 15, during MS&T18 in Columbus, Ohio. Once elected, the vice president will automatically become ASM president for 2019-20. In accordance with Article IV, Section 3 of the ASM Constitution, the ASM Board of Trust- ees has also announced its nominee for ASM Treasurer for 2018-2019. Officers andmembers of the Boardwhowill continue in office for 2018-2019 include: Dr. David U. Furrer, FASM, who will become president in October; Dr. Frederick E. Schmidt, P.E., FASM, who will serve as immediate past president; and trustees Mr. Larry D. Hanke, FASM, Mr. Roger A. Jones, Dr. John D. Wolodko, Mr. Prem K. Aurora, Dr. Thomas M. Moore, FASM, and Dr. Judith A. Todd, FASM. Retiring from the Board at this year’s Annual Business Meeting will be immediate past president Dr. William E. Frazier, FASM, and trustees Dr. Ellen K. Cerreta, FASM, Dr. Ryan M. Deacon, and Prof. Sudipta Seal, FASM. Furrer About the President-Elect and Board Nominees Dr. David U. Furrer, FASM President-Elect Dr. David U. Furrer is senior fellow discipline lead for the Materials and Processes Engineering organization at Pratt & Whitney. In this role, he leads the Pratt &WhitneyMaterials Discipline Chiefs and Materials Fellows in devel- opment of technical strategies and engineering standards and procedures. Furrer supports the development, design, and deployment of new materials and associated manufacturing processes. He is responsible for manufacturing technologies devel- opment and maturation, including computational tools and methods to support legacy and emerging manufactur- ing process application and design for manufacture. He is involved in additive manufacturing process development along with other emerging manufacturing processes. Prior to Pratt & Whitney, Furrer was chief of strategic materials and process technology and fellow of materials and process modeling at Rolls-Royce, where he led the strategy for materials modeling tools and methods, and the development and acquisition of advanced materials and processes. Furrer also held various roles at Ladish Co. Inc. (now ATI Forged Products) where he developed and deliv- ered unique thermo-mechanical processing technology for aerospace and general industrial industries. He has over 25 years of experience in the areas of aerospace materials engineering, development and application of computa- tional modeling and simulation tools for engineering mate- rials and manufacturing processes, and data analytics. In addition to working within the aerospace and forg- ing industries, he has been an adjunct professor at the Mil- waukee School of Engineering, where he taught materials and manufacturing technology courses within the mechan- ical engineering department.
