The Teacher Award Committee of the
ASM Materials Education Foundation is
proud to announce the selection of
Brian
Wright
of Olympia High School, Washing-
ton, as recipient of the 2014 Kishor M.
Kulkarni Distinguished High School
Teacher Award.
The award, $2000 plus $500 toward
travel to MS&T, was established in 2007 through a generous
donation by Dr. Kishor M. Kulkarni, past trustee of ASM In-
ternational, and his family
to recognize the accom-
plishments of one U.S. high
school science teacher who
demonstrates a significant
and sustained impact on
pre-college age students.
The award will be presented
on October 13 at the ASM Leadership Awards Luncheon at
MS&T14 in Pittsburgh.
Wright achieved National Board Certification, served
overseas in Turkey as a Fulbright Exchange Teacher, and per-
formed original laboratory research at both Washington
State University and Evergreen State College.

School of Management, Case Western Re-

They Stay: Women Persisting in the STEM

Nominations are currently being taken for the ASM/TMS Dis-
tinguished Lectureship inMaterials & Society. The Lecture was es-
tablished in 1971 and is jointly sponsored by The Minerals, Metals
&Materials Society (TMS) andASMInternational. The topic of the
lecture shall fall within these objectives:
• To clarify the role of materials science and engineering in
technology and in society in its broadest sense.
• To present an evaluation of progress made in developing
new technology for the ever changing needs of technology
and society.
• To define new frontiers for materials science and engineering.
The qualifications of the lecturer must include:
• A person experienced in national or industrial policy-making in
the field of materials science and engineering.
• An eminent individual who possesses a keen sense of how
technology and society are affected by development in
materials science and engineering.
• A person associated with government, industry, research, or
education.
Nominations may be proposed by any member of either Soci-
ety. Submit your nominations for consideration by
Sept. 15.
Rec-
ommendations must be received at the headquarters of either
Society.
