ADVANCED MATERIALS & PROCESSES | SEPTEMBER 2026 27 New ASM courses also under development to be launched later this year include Metallography for Additive Manufacturing; Advanced Corrosion Management and Microbial Corrosion in Pipelines; and, in partnership with the Materials Research Society (MRS), Introduction to Machine Learning and Applications in Materials Science. To serve specific industry and government targets, new offerings such as Failure Analysis: Pressure Vessels, Boilers, and Heat Exchangers; as well as Failure Analysis: Fasteners, Shafts, and Bearings have been developed. Additionally, Steel Metallography now offers a virtual option, expanding accessibility and flexibility for learners. For specific dates, curriculum details, and registration information, please visit: asminter- national.org/learning/courses/classroom. The accomplishments of these four Society initiatives represent the dedication and collaborative spirit of our members, volunteers, and staff. ASM International is committed to continuous improvement and innovation, ensuring that we deliver value and leadership for the global materials community. Thank you for your ongoing engagement and for being an active part of the community as we move forward together. ~AM&P assessing content coverage, enrollment demand, delivery formats, and audience characteristics. This process identified gaps and led to prioritized recommendations for new courses, bundles, and expanded delivery formats. These identified gaps were then validated with affiliate and committee leadership and tested against operational realities, including instructor availability and scheduling capacity. New and revised courses developed in response to demand data include Metal Additive Manufacturing and Post Processing for Optimized Properties and Performance; Practical Fracture Mechanics; and, in partnership with the German Society for Materials Science (DGM), Deep Learning for Materials Science. Updated courses informed by affiliate subject matter expert input include Introduction to Thermal Spray; Advanced Thermal Spray Techniques; Heat Treatment of Steel; and Heat Treating Quality and Inspection. ABOUT ASM INTERNATIONAL VISION: To serve as the leading resource for the global materials community. MISSION: To gather, process, and disseminate trustworthy, peer-reviewed materials information and knowledge globally through education, networking, and professional development for members, organizations served by our members, and the materials and manufacturing communities. STRATEGIC PLAN: To view the 2026-2030 plan, visit asminternational.org/ about-asm/strategicplan. Mat-E is built entirely on ASM’s curated content, providing trusted, sourced answers to real materials questions. Members can learn more and access Mat-E at Mat-E.org. ASM is actively evaluating partnerships with research institutions, engineering firms, and technology companies that require verified, experimental materials data for next-generation discovery tools. Our approach is deliberate—structured access that generates recurring value for ASM while protecting the integrity of our technical content. Underlying this work is a founda- tional effort to unify ASM’s data assets into a programmatically accessible platform that today comprises nearly 25 million indexed records. More than 17 million curated records and documents are already integrated into ASM’s AI infrastructure, enabling ASM to serve as a trusted data steward for materials science professionals. By embracing both AI and strategic partnerships, we are expanding our reach and value to the global materials community. EDUCATION PARTNERSHIP EXPANSION Our Education Partnership Expan- sion initiative launched multiple successful courses to serve our members in 2026. To identify technical areas with need for new or updated course content, individual education course portfolio analyses were conducted for affiliate societies and committees, Using ASM’s materials data portfolio, Mat-E helps you find trusted answers faster. Many of ASM’s classes have hands-on components using state-of-the-art equipment in our education labs.
