HIGHLIGHTS ADVANCED MATERIALS & PROCESSES | MAY 2026 51 CHAPTERS IN THE NEWS Akron/Cleveland Joint Thermal Spray Night For the first time, the ASM Akron and Cleveland Chapters co-hosted a Thermal Spray Night. The February 18 event was sponsored by Hannecard Roller Coatings Inc. in Barberton, Ohio. The speaker, Matthew Carey of Cincinnati Thermal Spray Inc., gave a presentation on “Thermal Spray Component Applications and Operational Excellence.” Milwaukee Conducts Five-Week Course The ASM Milwaukee Chapter’s main focus this year has been on teaching the Metallurgy of Steel for the Non- Metallurgist course. The five-week series had good attendance with students from several area companies. The Albuquerque Hosts Met for the Non-Met The ASM Albuquerque Chapter hosted a Metallurgy for the Non-Metallurgist course that drew over 90 students from Sandia National Laboratories (New Mexico and California), Kansas City National Security Campus, and Los Alamos National Laboratory. Multiple instructors shared knowledge on ferrous and nonferrous alloys, heat treatment, and engineering testing and properties. A custom section was added on additive manufacturing (AM) and metallurgy of AM materials. Instructors included Erin Barrick, Jessica Buckner, Jay Carroll, Dana Merlin, Chris Finfrock, Zahra Ghanbari, Peter Kinney, Rebecca Schaller, Don Susan, and Ben White. The course provided the Chapter an opportunity to build connections with local metal users. Funds generated by this event will be used to increase scholarship awards and support students. Carey Steven Keckler of ThermTech Inc. teaches one segment of the Milwaukee course. DC Congressional Visit The ASM Washington DC Chapter recently conducted their Congressional Visit Days. After the official meetings, the Chapter hosted Material Advantage students on March 26 for networking.
