She also earned her B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in materials science and engineering at Lehigh. Moyer spent eight years at Alcoa, where she served as technical services manager and chief metallurgist. In this capacity, she led critical materials and process areas including metallography, heat treatment, welding, chemical processing, and nondestructive testing, supporting advanced aerospace applications. Since returning to Lehigh in 2013, Moyer has played a central role in supporting research, training students in metallographic techniques, and fostering strong industry collaboration. She is widely recognized for her commitment to education and mentorship, having taught and guided hundreds of students while also leading outreach initiatives such as ASM Materials Camps and Lehigh University’s SEI program. She is also a three-time recipient of the Gilbert Doan Award, presented annually by Lehigh MSE students. Moyer has served in numerous leadership roles with ASM International at both the local and international levels. She has been on ASM’s Lehigh Valley Chapter executive board since 2013, having served as chair for several years and is the current Awards chair. She has taught ASM’s Steel Metallography and Metallographic Techniques courses, served on the ASM Education Committee and ASM Content and Data Products Council, and is currently on the editorial board for the Metallography, Microstructure, and Analysis journal. She is the immediate past president of ASM’s International Metallography Society and last year’s recipient of the ASM Materials Education Foundation’s George A. Roberts Award. Dr. Véronique Vitry, FASM Nominee for Trustee Dr. Véronique Vitry is currently a professor of metallurgy at UMONS in Mons, Belgium. She studied materials engineering in Faculté Polytechnique de Mons, worked as a junior researcher in PVD at Materia Nova, then returned to her alma mater where she received her Ph.D. in materials engineering in 2010. She was tenured at UMONS in 2012 and promoted to professor in 2023. Her research focuses on sustainable metallurgical processes with an emphasis on surface treatments and coatings, cemented carbides, and recycling processes. She is a recognized expert in electroless nickel plating. She is also helping local companies by carrying out failure analysis and expertise work. Vitry was awarded the ASM Silver medal in 2020 for her work on surface engineering and her dedication to sharing knowledge worldwide. She received the 2010 Guibal and Devillez awards from Faculté Polytechnique de Mons, awarded for the best work by a faculty alumni for the period 2007-2010, and was named to the 40 Under 40 in Surface Finishing Class of the Surface Finishing magazine in 2019. Vitry is highly involved in professional societies locally and globally. She chaired the French Heat and Surface Treatments Association (A3TS) from 2020 to 2026 and is the current president of their training committee. She is involved at various levels in ASM’s Failure Analysis Society and the IDEA Committee and is the current past chair of the Awards Policy Committee. Vitry also has served as an advisor to the vice-chancellor for international affairs at UMONS since 2018, in charge of “at Home internationalization” and international internships.
