In May 2026, we are pleased to welcome the global SMA community to sunny California for another exciting edition of the conference. The year’s theme, “Shaping SMAs Together,” reflects the collaborative spirit of our field and our shared commitment to advancing both fundamental science and impactful applications. SMST 2026 o ers an opportunity to reconnect, exchange ideas, and engage with the work shaping the future of shape memory and superelastic technologies. The conference location, La Jolla, is renowned for its world-class educational institutions, stunning Pacific coastline, and iconic golf course that has hosted multiple U.S. Open championships. This exceptional setting provides an ideal backdrop for technical discussions, collaboration, and inspiration. We received an overwhelming response to the call for abstracts, highlighting the vitality of the SMST community. Following the successful format of recent events, SMST 2026 will run from Monday through Friday a ernoon. The week begins with the highly anticipated Nitinol Educational Workshop hosted by Dr. Alan Pelton and other leading experts. The next three and a half days will feature technical programming, each starting with a morning plenary lecture from Othmane Benafan, Dimitris Lagoudas, Alan Pelton, and Q.P. Sun. Wednesday a ernoon remains open for attendees to explore La Jolla and the greater San Diego area together. SMST 2026 also continues traditions such as the announcement of the SMST Founders’ Grant awardee, the SMST William J. Buehler award, and the 7th CASMART Student Competition.
