HIGHLIGHTS ADVANCED MATERIALS & PROCESSES | NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2025 59 Tell us about your involvement with ASM. My involvement with ASM started in 1996. A newbie in semiconductor failure analysis, I was sent to ISTFA because my manager needed me to quickly pick up the FA lingo and nomenclatures to understand his instructions and communicate effectively with the team. After moving to the Bay Area in 2002, my ISTFA participation evolved from attendee to author, reviewer, technical session chair, user group speaker, panelist, user group committee chair, editorial board member for EDFA magazine, and speaker for the mentorship program. In almost 30 years of involvement, I have met so many amazing people and forged long-lasting friendships that are professional and personal. CHAPTERS IN THE NEWS Peoria Hosts Materials Engineering Camps The ASM Peoria Chapter hosted a four-day materials engineering camp for high school students, July 21-24, aimed at sparking interest in the field of materials science and engineering. The camp welcomed 30 students from 12 regional high schools at the Caterpillar Technical Center. Throughout the week, students engaged in five engineering workshops and six team-based projects, covering topics such as plastics, metallurgical design, heat treatment, nondestructive evaluation, corrosion, eMaterials, thermal spray, and engineering design. In addition to project and lab activities, students toured Morton Industries and Caterpillar Building SS, gaining firsthand insight into industrial operations. The camp concluded with a career panel discussion with Caterpillar engineers, followed by a resume-building seminar led by Caterpillar Early Talent Recruitment. The final day featured a graduation event where students presented their team projects to an audience of engineers, volunteers, and family members. The ASM Materials Camp hosted by the ASM Peoria Chapter serves as a starting point for inspiring students to explore the field of materials engineering and other STEM opportunities. LA Chapter Celebrates Centennial The Los Angeles Chapter of ASM International celebrated its 100th anniversary this year with a harbor cruise in Newport Beach, Calif. Those who braved the misty weather of the April day were rewarded with the sight of a double rainbow. Also in April, the Chapter held its annual Student Night. First, second, and third prizes were awarded for student presentations in Graduate and Undergraduate categories, as well as a “People’s Choice” award in each category.
