There are many analytical tools available for use by the quality engineering group for the identification and corrective action of problem-solving methodology. Additional Sources. Assistance in the investigative process can come from any source. It is imperative that the investigation team leader seek out and utilize any and all assistance they have available. Sometimes even the smallest detail from the most unlikely source can be the key piece of the puzzle that solves the “why” of the failure. Other possible investigative assistance groups include manufacturing engineering, maintenance, marketing, and customers/distributors. SUMMARY A properly directed failure investigation is one that begins with a well-developed plan, is conducted in a systematic manner, includes assistance from an organized team, and is taken to completion via a corrective action plan.
