HIGHLIGHTS ADVANCED MATERIALS & PROCESSES | OCTOBER 2025 56 sustainable consumer goods. As an experienced undergraduate researcher, he has been funded by Penn State’s Erickson Discovery Grant, allowing him to contribute to multiple projects involving patterned polymer gels, nanoparticle diffusion, and smart materials for sensing and anti-counter- feiting applications. As a rising junior, Lehman is an active member of Penn State’s Material Advantage chapter and a dean’s list student. He also holds an OSHA 30-hour card and is passionate about workplace safety and responsible engineering practices. In the future Lehman hopes to develop accessible, sustainable, material-based products that have real-world impact. Nomination Deadline for the 2026 Class of Fellows is Fast Approaching The honor of Fellow of the Society was established to provide recognition to ASM members for distinguished contributions in the field of materials science and engineering, and to develop a broadly based forum for technical and professional leaders to serve as advisors to the Society. Metals have been his obsession since he started forging at 12 years old. Oppelt has had internships at Dakota Tube and Scot Forge, and he serves as maintenance officer for SDSMT’s Forging Club. After graduation he plans to work in the heat treatment industry. Edward J. Dulis Scholarship The Edward J. Dulis Scholarship was established in 2003 and is awarded to an outstanding undergraduate member of ASM at the junior or senior level who demonstrates exemplary academic and personal achievements, as well as interest and potential in metallurgy or materials science and engineering. One scholar will receive a certifi- cate and check for $1500 toward educational expenses for one academic year. Prastuti Upadhyay Drexel University Prastuti Upadhyay is a junior majoring in materials science and engineering at Drexel University. She started performing research as a freshman at Prof. Yury Gogotsi’s MXene lab, working on 2D transitional metal carbides and nitrides (MXene). Her first-author paper on MXene air filters published in C-Journal of Carbon Research has been well received by the community. Upadhyay is the professional development chair of Drexel University’s Material Advantage chapter and will serve as vice president this academic year. She plans to expand her knowledge in 2D nanomaterials to fabrication and characterization. Upadhyay serves as a student ambassador for the College of Engineering and conducts lab demonstrations, SEM demos, research presentations, and panel discussions for high school student outreach programs. John M. Haniak Scholarship The John M. Haniak Scholarship was established in 2003 and is awarded to an outstanding undergraduate member of ASM at the junior or senior level who demonstrates exemplary academic and personal achievements, as well as interest and potential in metallurgy or materials science and engineering. One scholar will receive a certificate and check for $1500 toward educational expenses for one academic year.
