HIGHLIGHTS ADVANCED MATERIALS & PROCESSES | SEPTEMBER 2025 79 students with the skills, networks, and experiences they need to thrive. This investment in the future of our profession is not just important—it is essential to ASM’s long-term vitality and impact. ASM International – The World’s Largest Materials Society. ASM President Navin Manjooran, FASM navin.manjooran@asminternational.org EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR CORNER Celebrating Community It is hard to believe that a full year has passed since I was welcomed as executive director of ASM International. The time has truly flown. From day one, working side-by-side with our extraordinarily dedicated Board of Trustees and the many volunteers who serve on our key committees, we have accomplished a great deal together. Through their commitment and expertise, we have stabilized the organization and strengthened it to a level not seen in many years. For more about this remarkable business turnaround, I encourage you to read the column from our esteemed president and chair of the Board of Trustees, Navin Manjooran, FASM. One of the greatest joys of my return to the Society has been reconnecting with our members and volunteers, people whose passion and generosity are the heart of ASM. Our community is rich with talent, curiosity, and dedication, and it has been a privilege to deepen the partnership between the ASM Headquarters team, the Board, and our exceptional volunteer leaders. Together, we are not only preserving the proud traditions of ASM but also building an even stronger future. This issue introduces the 2025 Class of Fellows (page 75). Since 1969, our Fellows program has stood as a cornerstone of our association, celebrating members for their distinguished contributions to materials science and engineering. Being named an ASM Fellow is not just about recognition, it is about joining a community that shares ideas, lifts others up, and helps chart the course for what’s next. As we prepare for the 2026 Class of Fellows, we’re asking: Who inspires you? Who is pushing our profession forward in ways that matter? Let’s celebrate their impact and welcome them into the circle of leaders shaping our future. EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR CORNER The 2025 Class of Fellows now joins the distinguished ranks of Fellows from years past—an accomplished group of technical and professional leaders who together create a valued forum of expertise and insight, serving as trusted advisors to the Society. We look forward to honoring this newest class of Fellows at the Annual Awards Banquet during IMAT 2025 in Detroit on October 21. In this issue, you will also find Show Previews for IMAT, ICRS, and Heat Treat—our powerhouse trio of co-located events. The IMAT Show Preview features a special highlight: two full pages on our Executive Leadership Forum, an exciting addition to this year’s program. I am confident this will be a truly exceptional event, and I hope you will join us in Detroit to be part of the energy, insight, and connections that make these gatherings so special. Veronica Becker Executive Director, ASM International veronica.becker@asminternational.org Prof. Stefano Curtarolo Named 2026 Recipient of the J. Willard Gibbs Phase Equilibria Award ASM is pleased to announce that Prof. Stefano Curtarolo, director, Center for Autonomous Materials Design, department of mechanical engineering and materials science, Duke University, Durham, North Carolina, is the 2026 J. Willard Gibbs Phase Equilibria Award recipient. His citation reads: “For pioneering contributions to high-throughput computational thermo- dynamics and synthesizability theories with application to disordered ceramics.” The Gibbs Award was established in 2007 to recognize outstanding contributions to the field of phase equilibria. The award honors J. Willard Gibbs, one of America’s greatest theoretical scientists. Originally proposed by the ASM Alloy Phase Diagram Committee, the award supports ASM’s strong brand identity and reputation in the field of phase diagrams. The J. Willard Gibbs Phase Equilibria Award is endowed by QuesTek Innovations LLC. In addition to many other contributions, Gibbs laid the thermodynamics foundations of phase equilibria with his brilliant essay, “On the Equilibrium of Heterogeneous Substances,” published in 1876 and in 1878 in the Trans- actions of the Connecticut Academy.
