HIGHLIGHTS ADVANCED MATERIALS & PROCESSES | JULY/AUGUST 2025 54 The following ASM Organizational Unit Awards will be presented at the ASM Leadership Luncheon at IMAT 2025 in Detroit: ASM Student Paper Contest Mr. Mir Ishfaq, Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur India, will receive this year’s award for his paper entitled, “Establishing Aluminum-Oxygen (Al-O) Equilibria in Liquid Iron at 1873 K: An Experimental Study and Thermodynamic Analysis,” published in Metallurgical and Materials Transactions B, Vol. 55B, p 1635-1655, 2024. The contest was established in 1985 as a mechanism for student participation in Society affairs. The award recognizes the best technical paper with a graduate or undergraduate student as first author that is published in an ASM-sponsored publication during the year. ASM International Outstanding Graduate Scholar Award Dr. Ho Lun Chan, materials science and engineering, University of Virginia, Charlottesville, will receive this new award. ASM International is thrilled to name Chan as the inaugural recipient of the Outstanding Graduate Scholar Award—a recognition for graduate students who have shown outstanding scholarly performance in the field of metallurgy/materials science and engineering and related careers. Emerging Professionals Achievement Award Ms. Emily B. Mitchell, senior materials engineer, Spectrum Forensics, Englewood, Colo., will receive this year’s award “for outstanding application of advanced evidence documentation for failure analysis investigations, and for contributions to student outreach for ASM International and Material Advantage.” Established in 2010, the award recognizes and honors extraordinary ASM volunteers who are less senior individuals, i.e., 0-5 years of experience post-graduation, who have made a significant impact on ASM International through devoted service and dedication to the future of the Society. Marcus A. Grossmann Early Career Author Award Mr. Esmaeil Damavandi will receive this year’s award for his paper entitled, “Effects of Prior Solution Treatment on the Superior Strengthening of Texture Component of ECAPed Al-18Si-4.2Cu Alloy,” published in Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A, Vol. 55, p 2616-2634, August 2024. The award was established in 1960 in recognition of Dr. Grossmann’s accomplishments and especially his abiding interest and encouragement of younger metallurgists and materials engineers. ASM Historical Landmark Designation The Pajarito Site, Los Alamos National Laboratory, N.M., has been selected as a 2025 Historical Landmark and the citation reads, “The Pajarito Site showcases materials work spanning from ceramic artwork and wares of Ancestral Pueblo cultures to foundational discoveries on radioactive metals and high explosives that ushered in the atomic era.” In 1969, the ASM Historical Landmarks Designation was established to permanently identify the many sites and events that have played a prominent part in the discovery, development, and growth of metals and metalworking.
