The awards program recognizes achievements of members of the materials science and engineering community. Awards will be presented at ASM’s Awards Dinner on Tuesday, October 21, during IMAT 2025 in Detroit. Tickets for the Awards Dinner can be ordered by using the IMAT registration form. Honorary Membership Mr. Jon D. Tirpak, FASM, chief engineer, Sabattis LLC, Mount Pleasant, S.C., will receive this year’s award “for building enduring, customer-oriented collaborations and processes focused on materials science, engineering, technology, and manufacturing especially in the foundry and forging industries.” Honorary Membership in the Society was established in 1919 to recognize distinguished service to the materials science and engineering profession, ASM strategic plan and initiatives, and the progress of mankind. Gold Medal Dr. Iver E. Anderson, FASM, senior metallurgist and adjunct professor, Department of Energy, Ames Laboratory and Iowa State University, will receive this year’s award “for outstanding innovation in powder metallurgy, the establishment of foundational gas atomization processing technology, and the invention of lead-free solder.” The medal was established in 1943 to recognize outstanding knowledge and great versatility in the application of science to the field of materials science and engineering, as well as exceptional ability in the diagnosis and solution of diversified materials problems. Engineering Materials Achievement Award Dr. Paul Ohodnicki, Jr., Dr. Sam Kernion, Mr. Kevin Byerly, Ms. Leah Ohodnicki, Dr. Kyle Schneider, Mr. Tim Mould, Mr. Brett Riale, Ms. Meghan Laba, Dr. Veda Duppalli, and Mr. Mark Nations from CorePower Magnetics, Pittsburgh; and Prof. Michael McHenry from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, will receive this year’s award “for the development and commercialization of permeability-engineered nanocrystalline soft magnetic materials for high-efficiency power electronics and electric machines.” Established in 1969, this award recognizes an outstanding achievement in materials or materials systems relating to the application of knowledge of materials to an engineering structure or to the design and manufacture of a product. Albert Sauveur Achievement Award Prof. Kenneth S. Vecchio, FASM, professor, department of nanoengineering, University of California, San Diego, will receive this year’s award “for innovation in structural materials, leadership in the application of computational tools in alloy development, and for fostering a new vision for nanotechnology education and nanoTirpak Anderson Vecchio
