The meeting covered a range of topics on how the Board could better support the Mexico Chapter. Topics centered around facilitating the connection of university students with the materials industry, engaging the Mexico Chapter in more ASM activities at the international level, and increasing visibility of the Society within Mexico. Huang, a trustee 2023-2026, is the Donald & Cathey Humphreys Chair at the Oklahoma State University College of Engineering, Architecture, and Technology. Hyderabad Chapter Inaugurated The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) in collaboration with ASM International, celebrated the inception of the ASM Hyderabad Chapter for professionals and the Material Advantage (MA) Hyderabad Chapter for students on November 27, 2024. The event welcomed an impressive 140 attendees and included active participation from IITH faculty, students, and representatives of local institutions. The meeting was organized by Mayur Vaidya and Ashok Kamaraj, assistant professors in the Department of Materials Science & Metallurgical Engineering at IITH. ASM President Navin Manjooran, FASM, was on hand for the festivities. In his remarks at the event, Manjooran stated “With 75 professional members and 65 student members joining the ASM family, this marks a significant milestone in strengthening our presence in the region.” Prof. B.S. Murty, FASM, director of IIT Hyderabad, emphasized the value of being associated with ASM. He remarked “Connecting with professional associations is essential to amplify the power of collaboration. Collaboration is the key to success, driving growth, and creating synergy. At IITH, nearly 50% of our projects are the result of collaborative efforts.” The Chapter will be fully operational later this year. MEMBERS IN THE NEWS Prof. B.S. MEMBERS IN THE NEWS SME Honors Rudra on ‘30 Under 30’ List Kamal Rudra was named among SME’s 2024 “30 Under 30.” The list recognizes future leaders in the manufacturing industry. The honorees are profiled in a supplement to the November issue of Manufacturing Engineering, an SME Media publication. Rudra was selected based on his impact not only professionally, but Rudra also for his engagement with the manufacturing industry and with his individual community. Rudra is a research and development integration engineer at IBM in Albany, N.Y. He graduated from the University of Michigan with an M.Sc. in electrical and computer engineering. Rudra is a member of the ASM Detroit Chapter.
