ASM President Manjooran Inspires Detroit Chapter The ASM Detroit Chapter welcomed ASM President Navin Manjooran, FASM, at their November 11, 2024, meeting. Manjooran delivered a presentation titled, “Inventing the Future with Materials: The Backbone of Modern Technology & Innovation.” He highlighted the pivotal role of emerging materials and technologies in addressing global challenges and shaping a sustainable future, and encouraged attendees to embrace innovation in their own work. In addition, he toured several local manufacturing and testing facilities, including Linamar Corp., Aalberts Surface Technologies, Michigan Metrology, and United Technical. He also visited the department of materials science at the University of Michigan, where he toured state-of-the-art laboratories, interacted with students, and discussed their career and research goals. Manjooran’s visit aimed to inspire more members to join ASM, grow the sustaining members, and take on leadership roles. Joint Chapter Meeting in California The ASM Los Angeles Chapter and Orange Coast Chapters held a joint meeting on November 20, 2024, in Santa Fe Springs, Calif. Wylie Simpson, Ph.D. candidate and Henry Samueli Endowed Fellow from the University of California, Irvine, presented a technical talk on “Stress Corrosion Behavior of Stainless Steel 316 and High Entropy Alloy Al0.1CrCoFeNi in a Molten NaCl-Na2SO4 Salt.” Simpson said the results of his research were used to better understand the governing mechanisms in the molten salt stress corrosion degradation of each alloy. Mexico City Trustee Visit Hanchen Huang, FASM, made a Board of Trustee visit to the officers of ASM Mexico Chapter on December 2, 2024. During his visit to Mexico City, he met with Victor Zacarias, chapter chair, and Carlos Carrasco, immediate past chair. Zacarias is managing director of Global Thermal Solutions Inc., Mexico (GTS Mexico).
