Navin Manjooran, President of ASM International, brings a unique blend of global leadership, general management, board expertise, technical expertise, financial acumen, people management, and a commitment to advancing the field of materials science, technology, and engineering. Born in India and having lived half of his life in the United States, Navin has carried his heritage and values of hard work, passion, dedication, sincerity, and innovation across the globe, culminating in his appointment as president of the world’s largest materials organization. With a career spanning three decades, Navin has held leadership roles at major organizations including Siemens AG, where he was part of the global leadership team (as senior vice president), driving technology and innovation, global strategy and inter- national collaborations. His vision for ASM International centers on strengthening financial health, fostering global partnerships, and championing inclusive excellence. more than 40 international symposia and teaching extensively in materials science and engineering at esteemed institutions such as Virginia Tech, the University of Florida, and the National Institute of Technology. His dedication to nurturing the next generation of scientists and engineers is reflected in his impressive record of over 200 publications or presentations and 12 patents or disclosures that have significantly advanced the field. Beyond his academic contributions, Navin has played a pivotal role in fostering global collaborations that bridge academia, industry, and research institutions. His commitment to excellence and innovation continues to inspire the materials science community worldwide. FAMILY AND COMMUNITY Navin’s journey is deeply enriched by the support of his close-knit family— his wife, Rhea, and son, Kabir—and his dedication to giving back to the community. He resides in Windermere, Florida, where he finds joy in activities such as golf, tennis, reading, and water sports, including spending time on the water with his yachts. In addition to his professional and recreational pursuits, Navin is deeply passionate about mentoring the next generation of scientists and fostering diversity within the materials science field. Ravi Ravindran, FASM, 2013-2014 ASM President DISTINGUISHED ACADEMICS Navin holds a bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering from the National Institute of Technology (NIT Warangal, India), a master’s degree in materials science and engineering from the University of Florida, and a doctorate in materials science and engineering from Virginia Tech. He also has an MBA from Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago and executive management education from Harvard University. Navin is the only NITW alumni to receive two of three awards presented at graduation since the University’s founding in 1959. He is a Fellow of five global profes- sional organizations: ASM International; American Ceramic Society; Institute of Materials, Minerals, and Mining; Indian Institute of Metals; and Alpha Sigma Mu. LEADER AND COLLABORATOR Navin has dedicated his career to advancing materials science and engineering through impactful initiatives. He currently serves as chairman of Solve, a global technology and research services organization, addressing critical challenges in energy, healthcare, industry, and infrastructure.
