In 2024, he was selected by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers as one of the “25 leaders transforming manufacturing.” MEMBERS IN THE NEWS Blue EMERGING PROFESSIONALS A Critical Milestone for ASM Emerging Professionals The “Prospectives for Emerging Professionals” symposium is a lasting initiative led by the ASM Emerging Professionals Committee (EPC). It also serves as a platform for ASM members from college students to retired materials scientists to share their legacies of mentorship success, pivotal career moments, breaking barriers as minorities, and other professional milestones. With this theme at its heart, the fall symposium was a major success, featuring 10 speakers from academia, industry, and government, and drawing a total attendance of 150 students. Our first-ever “EPC Office Hour,” led by mentorship chair Melanie Buziak, featured a face-to-face workshop on resume review, mock interviews, grad school/career coaching, and ASM volunteering opportunities. More than 20 students with a highly diverse background attended the workshop with several expressing interest in joining ASM’s student, emerging professional, and volunteer network. This year’s Emerging Professional Achievement Award was awarded to Amy Kurr, who also won first place in the ASM Materials Venture Challenge. We would like to recognize Elizabeth Hoffman, FASM, ASM Senior Vice President; Erik Muller, FASM, Class of 2024 ASM Fellow, George A. Roberts Award recipient; and Emily Kinser, FASM, Class of 2023 ASM Fellow, 2015 ASM Bronze Medal recipient. All were EPC members and instrumental to building the foundation for our current success. Their enduring leadership in the materials industry continues to inspire our EPC membership. EPC members gather at IMAT 2024.
