AFFILIATE NEWS INTERIM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR CORNER Reflections amid Leadership Transition As I step back from the interim executive director role at ASM International to return to serving as executive director of the ASM Materials Education Foundation full time, I wanted to share my reflections. It was my great honor to help lead ASM International during the past nine months, having immense respect for the dedicated and passionate board and staff. I was happy to work with all parties to improve the financial and programmatic outlook for the organization. While I have worked with the ASM Materials Education Foundation for seven years, this was my first opportunity to work closely with the ASM International Board of Trustees. These individuals are all committed to ASM International and its future success. I wish the new executive director well in working with the Board to forge the organization’s future and set the strategic direction for the coming years. The ASM International events and education offerings are strong and well thought of by those in the industry. Publications and content, from AM&P and databases to journals and handbooks, are the lifeblood of the organization and industry whether printed or online. And our Materials Solutions Network allows members to seek and provide ideas and input on challenging issues when organizations are unsure where to find answers. Staff continue to hone and develop new resources to serve ASM members and others in the industry. I encourage you to get more involved in one or more of these offerings to benefit your personal growth and that of your company. The ASM Foundation has an incredibly capable staff, a fact that allowed me to split my time and focus without Foundation programming missing a beat. I will continue to shape the Foundation’s future in the coming years and appreciate the support of the Foundation Board, donors, volunteers, and master teachers in reaching students to share the exciting possibilities of materials science and engineering (MSE). The future is bright as we move the organization forward and broaden our reach. At IMAT later this month, I look forward to hosting you and other conference attendees at the Dome to celebrate the ASM Foundation’s impact on ASM International and the MSE field in general. Please say hello! Carrie Wilson Interim Executive Director, ASM International Executive Director, ASM Materials Education Foundation carrie.wilson@asminternational.org Wilson
