Eric Cole In 2007, Eric went to summer camp. “I wasn’t thrilled about going away for a week,” he says, “but by the end of that week my life had changed.” That was the week he attended the Eisenman Materials Camp. Four years later, he was back at camp as a mentor. SUCCESS STORIES Rachel Eckert Rachel, a former student of the Eisenman Camp, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Materials and Biomedical Engineering from Iowa State University. She now brings her expertise and enthusiasm back to Eisenman Materials Camp, where she serves as a junior mentor. Dr. Tori Miller Tori joined the ASM MEF Student Camp at 14 and earned a B.S.E. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Michigan in 2011. She completed her Ph.D. in Materials at UC Santa Barbara in 2016 and will join the ASM International Board of Directors in October 2024. Literally Mr. Michael B. “Mike” Connelly, FASM, CQE, retired vicepresident of Casey Products, is the only mentor to teach at EisenmanCamp all 25 years. A graduate of ASM’s Metals Engineering Institute and Northwood University (BBA), Mike has 51 years of manufacturing experience. He authored papers and a course book on statistical process control in heat treating. Post-retirement, he teaches at Daley Community College’s MTEC, volunteers on ASM’s educational committees, and is vice president of the International Metallographic Society. He is also a member of the ASM Chicago Regional Chapter.
