HIGHLIGHTS ADVANCED MATERIALS & PROCESSES | JULY/AUGUST 2024 68 CHAPTERS IN THE NEWS Cleveland Holds Awards Night The Cleveland Chapter held its Awards Night at ASM International’s headquarters and geodesic dome on May 14. Navin Manjooran, FASM, ASM’s senior vice president, gave an enlightening talk on “Inventing the Future with Materials: The Backbone of Modern Technology & Innovation.” Several Chapter awards were then presented by Ryan Paul, Chapter chair. Robert Carter of NASA Glenn Research Center received the President’s Award. The Cleveland Chapter Award of Distinction was presented to John Pickens of Material & Process Innovation LLC. In addition, the contributions of the Chapter chair were recognized with a plaque presented by Pickens to Ryan Paul of GrafTech International Holdings Inc. Kanpur Hosts Materials Camp The Material Advantage Chapter at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, India, hosted a Materials Camp from May 3-6, in collaboration with the Advanced Centre for Materials Science (IIT Kanpur), Materials Society, Navin Manjooran, FASM, gives a technical talk during a Cleveland Chapter meeting at ASM headquarters. Los Angeles Spotlights Students The Los Angeles Chapter held its annual Student Night on April 16 at Geezers in Santa Fe Springs, Calif. First, second, and third prizes were awarded in both graduate and undergraduate categories. In addition, each division had a People’s Choice Award, voted on by all attendees. There was also a metallography contest for students from a local technical high school.
