HIGHLIGHTS ADVANCED MATERIALS & PROCESSES | MAY/JUNE 2024 60 CHAPTERS IN THE NEWS Connecticut Tours Ulbrich Facility On April 9, the Ulbrich Specialty Strip Mill in Wallingford opened its doors to ASM Connecticut Chapter members for a special tour. The group learned that the mill specializes in conversion of stainless steel, nickel alloys, and titanium coils for applications in the automotive, aerospace, medical, and power generation industries. They also witnessed processes such as state-of-the-art cold rolling, annealing, and coil slitting. Ulbrich Stainless Steels & Special Metals Inc. is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. The business, which has been family owned and operated for four generations, has 11 locations in five countries. Utah Holds Membership Drive Five members of ASM Utah Chapter’s executive committee worked at a booth promoting ASM membership at the Wasatch Front Materials Expo on March 21. The event, hosted by the Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering, Utah Chapter, was held at Salt Lake Community College’s Miller Campus. Booth workers raffled off ASM merchandise and promoted the benefits of individual and corporate memberships. In addition to showcasing upcoming events, booth literature promoted an ASM Materials Camp-Teachers to be held in Salt Lake City, recent issues of Advanced Materials & Processes, ASM Handbooks and other publications, and the Global Materials Platform PRO. Pune Celebrates Women in MSE The ASM Pune Chapter marked International Women’s Day 2024 with a unique celebration, organizing a series of Tech Talks throughout March under the theme #InspireInclusion. The talks honored the brilliance and contributions of women in the fields of metallurgy, materials science and engineering (MSE), and innovation, fostering a culture of diversity and inclusion. The series’ inaugural session included a greeting by Dr. Navin Manjooran, senior vice president of ASM International. He shared his insights on the importance of diversity and inclusion in the field. The first talk, “Effect of Ratcheting on Piping and Tubing Materials,” was presented by Dr. Prerna Mishra of MKSSS Cummins College of Engineering for Women. The second week’s talk was on “Materials in Additive Manufacturing,” given by Dr. Divya Padmanabhan of Pillai College of Engineering. The third talk, “Innovation in Materials Engineering,” was presented by Dr. Raju Kadam of Bharat Forge Ltd. The final lecture, “TRIZ (Theory of Inventive Problem Solving) Innovation Methodology,” was given by Tiziana Bertoncelli of Ansys EMEA LF Team. The Pune Chapter appreciates the organizing efforts of Udayan Pathak, FASM, Ruta Barve, Kruttika Apshankar, Jaswandi Gotmare, Surabhi Nagar, Tejaswini Verma, and Laxmi Mulik.
