Tirpak has been a member of ASM International for over 40 years and served as ASM president in 2016 and as a trustee from 2007-2010. He received his B.S. in metallurgical engineering from Lafayette College and an M.S. in materials engineering from the University of Dayton. Springboarding from six years in the Air Force and into industry, the balance of his career accrued insight regarding the executive suite. He served as executive director of the Forging Defense Manufacturing Consortium and managing director of the Metals Affordability Initiative III, trustee and president of ASM International, and is now a managing partner of Value Selling Associates and chief engineer of Sabattis LLC. Building on these experiences, he intends to lead this year’s Nominating Committee in selecting three trustees and a vice president with proven skills and experience that complement ASM’s vision to lead ASM International forward. Tirpak was elected a Fellow of ASM in 2002, received the IIM-Visiting Lectureship award in 2019, and has been selected to receive ASM Honorary Membership in 2025. ASM Officers Appoint Members In accordance with the ASM International Constitution, ASM president Mr. Pradeep Goyal, FASM, senior vice president Dr. Navin Manjooran, FASM, vice president Dr. Elizabeth Hoffman, FASM, and immediate past president Dr. Mark Smith, FASM, appointed nine members to the Nominating Committee from among candidates proposed by chapters, committees, councils, and ASM Affiliate Society boards. This year, the committee is responsible for selecting a nominee for vice president-trustee (oneyear term) and for nominating three trustees (three-year terms). Members do not select a candidate for president of the Society, because Article IV, Section 8c of the Constitution states that the office of president shall be filled for a period of one year by succession of the senior vice president. The 2024 Nominating Committee’s nominee for vice president will serve as ASM’s president 2026-2027. 2024 Nominating Committee Members Include: Dr. Antonello Astarita, associate professor of manufacturing, University of Naples, “Federico II,” Dept. of Chemical, Materials and Production Engineering, Napoli, Italy (nominated by the Italy/Switzerland Chapter); Dr. Sundar Atre, endowed chair of manufacturing and materials, University of Louisville, Ky.
