FEATURE ADVANCED MATERIALS & PROCESSES | MARCH 2024 35 HEAT TREATING SOCIETY NEWS ASM HEAT TREATING SOCIETY NAMES COMMITTEE CHAIRS FOR 2023-2024 TERM The ASM Heat Treating Society (HTS) board appointed chairs to each of its committees for the 2023-2024 term. Benjamin Bernard, VP international sales, Surface Combustion Inc., serves as president of HTS. Chuck Faulkner, commercial development manager, Quaker Houghton, serves as vice president of HTS. Lesley Frame, professor, University of Connecticut, serves as HTS immediate past president and treasurer, as well as chair of the HTS Awards & Nominations and the HTS Finance Committees. Timothy De Hennis, senior metallurgist, Boeing, Chuck Faulkner, commercial development manager, Quaker Houghton, and Robert Madeira, group manager heat treat, Inductotherm Group, continue to serve as co-chairs of the HTS Exposition Subcommittee. Olga Rowan, senior engineer, Caterpillar Inc., serves as chair to the HTS Technology & Programming Committee. Mohammed Maniruzzaman, engineering specialist, Caterpillar Inc., continues as chair of the HTS Education Subcommittee. Michael A. Pershing, senior technical steward, Caterpillar Inc., continues as chair of the HTS Research and Development Committee. Collin Russell, research and development engineer, Los Alamos National Laboratory, continues as chair of the HTS Membership Subcommittee. Bernard Faulkner Frame De Hennis Madeira 3 Rowan Maniruzzaman Pershing Russell SOLICITING PAPERS FOR ASM HTS/BODYCOTE BEST PAPER IN HEAT TREATING CONTEST The ASM Heat Treating Society established the Best Paper in Heat Treating Award in 1997 to recognize a paper that represents advancement in heat-treating technology, promotes heat treating in a substantial way, or represents a clear advancement in managing the business of heat treating. The award is endowed by Bodycote Thermal Process-North America. The contest is open to all students, in full-time or part-time education, at universities (or their equivalent) or colleges. It is also open to those students who have graduated within the past three years and whose paper describes work completed while an undergraduate or postgraduate student. Paper submission deadline has been extended to April 1. DISLER RECEIVES 2023 GEORGE H. BODEEN HEAT TREATING ACHIEVEMENT AWARD William Disler, president and CEO, AFC-Holcroft, is the recipient of the 2023 George H. Bodeen Heat Treating Achievement Award. Established by the ASM Heat Treating Society in 1996, the award recognizes distinguished and significant contributions to the field of heat treating through leadership, management, or engineering development of substantial commercial impact. Disler is recognized “for engineering innovations in the manufacturing of custom capital equipment for the heat treat industry and for guiding hundreds of employees to improve component performance in companies around the world.”
