ADVANCED MATERIALS & PROCESSES | MARCH 2024 20 The International World Confer- ence on Titanium has been bringing together scientists and engineers researching many areas of titanium development, manufacture, and implementation since 1968. The conference was initially organized by an International Organizing Committee (IOC) comprising the United Kingdom, represented by the Institute of Metals; the United States of America, represented by TMS and ASM International; the former Soviet Union represented by the Academy of Sciences; and Japan, represented by the Japanese Institute of Metals. Increased research and development activities over the next decade led to Germany, represented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Metallkunde, and France, represented by the Societe Francaise de Metallurgie et de Materiaux, being invited to join the IOC in 1980. This was followed by China in 1992, represented by the Non-Ferrous Metals Society also being invited to join the IOC. The World Conference on Titanium has been held every four years, with the exception of the 1995 conference held in Birmingham, U.K., and serves to highlight recent advances and new opportunities for titanium alloys. The 15th World Conference on Titanium (Ti-2023) was held at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre, Scotland, from June 12-16, 2023. Over 400 papers were presented by A SUMMARY OF Ti-2023: THE WORLD CONFERENCE ON TITANIUM The 15th World Conference on Titanium included papers on titanium alloy development, efforts to reduce Ti powder costs, additive manufacturing, and computational materials modeling tools. Vasisht Venkatesh, FASM* and Adam Pilchak,* Pratt & Whitney, East Hartford, Connecticut *Member of ASM International with key conference topics were also presented by renowned specialists. The oral presentations spanned 12 key conference topic sessions, which included: Additive Manufacturing and technical experts to an audience of over 500 attendees from more than 20 countries. Six plenary lectures were presented by members of the IOC and a total of 14 keynote lectures associated Ti-2023 was held near Edinburgh Castle.
