He is a Ph.D. candidate at Case Western Reserve University and graduate student researcher at NASA Glenn Research Center. 2023 DomesDay Winners ASM’s Geodesic Dome Design Competition, DomesDay, was held during IMAT 2023 last October. Nine teams from various schools competed for the top prize. Established in 2014 by the ASM Student Board Members, DomesDay is intended to familiarize Material Advantage students with a piece of ASM culture, the Geodesic Dome, by involving them in a design and materials selection competition. Boyer, FASM, 84, of Bellevue, Washington, was born on July 4, 1939, and passed away on November 16, 2023. He received B.S and M.S. degrees in metallurgical engineering from the University of Washington. In 1965, he was hired by The Boeing Company where he spent 46 productive years, eventually becoming a Technical Fellow. During his tenure, Boyer worked across the titanium and aerospace industries where he was well known and highly respected. Affectionately known as “The Ti Guy,” he was the go-to resource for the metal, notably co-authoring the heavily referenced Materials Properties Handbook: Titanium Alloys, among others. He delivered many plenary presentations and represented the U.S. at the International Titanium Conference in Beijing in 2011. His numerous technical achievements earned him the 1997 William Hunt Eisenman Award. Boyer served as chair of the Puget Sound Chapter 1988-1989 and 2006-2007. He also was a longtime member of the ASM Handbook Committee, a frequent contributor and organizer of ASM’s AeroMat conference, and served as an ASM trustee. His dedication to the Society was recognized in 2013 when he received the Allan Ray Putnam Service Award. Richard A. Daniele of Lakewood, Colorado, passed away at age 84. The ASM lifetime member was born in Weymouth, Massachusetts, and his formative years were spent in the South Boston area. He then moved west to study metallurgical engineering at the Colorado School of Mines before serving as a captain in the U.S. Army Reserves. Daniele spent most of his early career working the copper mines of southern New Mexico. From the mines to the boardroom, he carved out a career for himself in metallurgical engineering specializing in strategic metals. He later ran the company Daniele Metal Mineral Services.
