HIGHLIGHTS ADVANCED MATERIALS & PROCESSES | MAY/JUNE 2023 61 and continues to work with the ASM Foundation and the ASM Finance and Investment Committees. He was a former co-chair of the Education Committee. NSL helped to establish and sponsor the DomesDay Competition and Somrack served as a judge for many years. He has published numerous articles and presented papers at various ASM chapter meetings. He has also received multiple awards for leadership and growth initiatives as well as the Cleveland Chapter’s Distinguished Service Award in 2016. Somrack received his bachelor’s in marketing from Myers University (now Dyke College) in Cleveland and his MBA from Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio. Prof. Hanchen Huang, FASM Nominee for Trustee Hanchen Huang has been the provost of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth since 2022. He started tenure track at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2002, earned tenure in 2005, received promotion to professor in 2006, became the director of mechanical engineering in 2007, and got elected as a standing committee chair of university faculty senate in 2008. In 2009, he joined the University of Connecticut as an endowed professor to co-lead the cluster hiring of 13 faculty members in clean energy. In 2013, he joined Northeastern University as the department chair of mechanical and industrial engineering. In 2019, he joined the University of North Texas as the dean of engineering. Huang’s primary research interest is in nanorod growth and nanomechanics. He and his team discovered the kinetic mechanism that gives rise to the nanoscale dimension of metallic nanorods from physical vapor deposition (PVD). Based on this mechanism, they developed analytical theories of nanorod diameter and separation and experimentally achieved the smallest and most well separated metallic nanorods using PVD. Using these nanorods, they patented a metallic glue technology and co-founded MesoGlue Inc. to commercialize this technology. Within ASM, Huang is chair of the Emerging Technologies Awareness Committee (ETAC) and a member of the Core and Emerging Technologies Council. He has been a member of the ASM Award Selection Committee, served on the 2019 ASM Nominating Committee, and is an ASM Fellow. On behalf of ETAC, he has organized panel discussions and worked with the IMAT programming committees on conference organization. Beyond ASM, he is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and Society of Engineering Sciences, and is a member of the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering. BOARD NOMINEES Mr. Christopher J. Misorski, FASM Nominee for Trustee Christopher J. Misorski is a Fellow of ASM International, chair of the Executive Board of the Milwaukee Chapter of ASM International, a member of the National Association of Corrosion Engineers, a board member of the Failure Analysis Society, and chair of the Industrial Advisory Board— Materials Science for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He received his B.S. and M.S. in metallurgical engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Misorski’s industrial background includes the areas of die casting, aluminum casting operations, investment casting of stainless steel, steel rolled products, iron foundry products, aerospace forgings, heat treating, and marine engines/propulsion systems. He is presently a technical advisor of materials science with Mercury Marine. In this role, Misorski has led the evaluation and development of various new manufacturing advancements including vacuum carburizing with high pressure gas quenching, a directional shot peening processing system, robotic finishing of castings, unique laboratory corrosion testing cabinets and procedures, and environmental exposure corrosion testing in marine saltwater environments. His areas of expertise include corrosion protection, coating system design and testing, failure analysis, and material selection and processing. Misorski holds 13 U.S. patents in the areas of biofouling prevention, unique materials usage and processing, and product designs. Dr. Dehua Yang, FASM Nominee for Trustee Dehua Yang has a Ph.D. in physical chemistry, and M.S. and B.S. degrees in physics. Yang has authored/co- authored more than 60 peer-reviewed publications on nanoscience and nanotechnology, tribology, and surface science and engineering-related topics. He is a co-inventor of seven U.S. patents. He has given more than 80 presentations including 20 invited talks at research institutions and scientific conferences. The products he designed and managed at Hysitron, including the nanoTensile 5000 and 3D OmniProbe, won the 2007 Micro/Nano 25 Award and 2005 Nano 50 Award, respectively. Yang has held leadership and membership positions at various technical societies. He is currently vice chair of the ASM Handbook Committee and a board member of the Huang Misorski Yang
