ASM Award Rule Changes This summer, the Awards Policy Committee (APC) completed a thorough review of ASM International’s Award Rules. Their recommendations were approved by the ASM Board of Trustees on September 14 and are now in effect. Key updates focused on years of ASMmembership for award eligibility and the removal of age restrictions to better comply with ASM’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives. We encourage all members to review the updated ASM Award Rules for eligibility purposes. Following is an overview of the award rule updates. • The Bradley Stoughton Award for Young Teachers has been renamed the Bradley Stoughton Award for Early Career Teachers. The age restriction has been replaced with years of teaching experience. • The Marcus A. Grossmann Award for Young Authors has been renamed the Marcus A. Grossmann Early Career Author Award and the age restriction has been replaced by years of experience post terminal degree. • The ASM Bronze Medal and Silver Medal awards have replaced the age restriction with years of experience at time of nomination. • The ASM Gold Medal now requires five years of continuous ASM membership for eligibility. • The Allan Ray Putnam Service Award now requires three years of continuous ASM membership and up to two awards may be presented each year. • The Engineering Materials Achievement Award rules now specify that recipient(s) must be a small team (5-10 members) and the role of each teammember should be clearly outlined. • The William Hunt Eisenman and Albert Sauveur Achievement Awards now require three years of continuous ASM membership, and the achievement criteria has been expanded and updated for clarity. As the deadline for the majority of ASM Awards is February 1, 2023, refer to http://www.asminternational.org/ membership/awards/nominate for the latest updated rules.
