NEMKOV ACADEMIC RESEARCH AWARD Kip Findley, professor, metallurgical and materials engineering, Colorado School of Mines, has won the Prof. Valentin S. Nemkov Academic Research Award, sponsored by Fluxtrol and presented at IMAT 22 in New Orleans. The award is Fluxtrol Inc.’s annual recognition program for post-doctoral researchers, lecturers, and professors (academic researchers) that is presented annually to a researcher who had the greatest impact on the event in the area of thermal processing of materials. FLUXTROL STUDENT RESEARCH COMPETITION WINNERS Sponsoredby Fluxtrol Inc., this is a competition-based award and recognition program for young innovative scientists/professionals, seeking to encourage participation in ASM HTS, and to provide attractive offers and opportunities in the worldwide thermal processing community. Fluxtrol and ASM solicit abstract submissions based on thermal processing of metal and metal-containing components for this competition. This is a two-step competition encompassing a poster competition, as well as an oral presentation competition for semi-finalists. The 2022 winners are: First Place: De-coupling CaseCore Flow Stress Behavior in Carburized AISI 9310 Steel, Adanma Akoma, University of Connecticut. Second Place: Modeling Autotempering Effects on Microstructure and Properties in Large Section Sizes, Michael Rupinen, Jr., Colorado School of Mines. Third Place: Optimizing Thermal Processing of Additively Manufactured 7050-based Aluminum Alloy for High Corrosion Resistance, Rupesh Rajendran, Georgia Institute of Technology. Findley Robert Goldstein, FASM, presents the Fluxtrol Student Research Competition award on behalf of Fluxtrol to first place winner Adanma Akoma, University of Connecticut. Fluxtrol Student Research Competition second place winner Michael Rupinen, Jr., Colorado School of Mines. The winner of the 2022 HTS Strong Bar Competition, sponsored by Instron and InductothermGroup, is Fontana’s Finest from The Ohio State University.
