Daehn, FASM Professor and Mars G. Fontana Chair, The Ohio State University Columbus, Ohio “For creative and impactful development and dissemination of materials science and technology, including impulse welding, joining and forming, and deployment of materials science in numerous K-12 classrooms.” The medal was established in 1943 to recognize outstanding knowledge and great versatility in the application of science to the field of materials science and engineering, as well as exceptional ability in the diagnosis and solution of diversified materials problems. SMST SEEKS BOARD NOMINATIONS SMST is seeking nominations for two directors to serve three-year terms. Terms begin October 1, 2023. Any member of SMST in good standing is encouraged to nominate themselves or another member for one of these positions. SEEKING APPLICATIONS FOR SMST STUDENT BOARD MEMBERS SMST is seeking applicants for its student board member position. Students must be a registered undergraduate or graduate during the 2023-2024 academic year and must be studying or involved in research in an area closely related to shape memory and superelastic technologies. CLEVELAND SYMPOSIUM Shape Memory Materials: Progress and Challenges The ASM Cleveland Chapter is offering a one-day technical symposium on “Shape Memory Materials: Progress and Challenges” on Wednesday, November 2. The educational event will run from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and is open to members and non-members, especially engineers, sales, marketing, students, and teachers. Held at The Aviator at 20920 Brookpark Road, Cleveland, Ohio, the symposiumwill provide an overview of the topic, resources, state of the art, weaknesses, deficiencies, and estimate of future trends. Online registration fee is $100 and six hours of CEU time will be provided. There are also opportunities for exhibitors to display their contributions to the field.
