Zala (former student member of the ASM Gujarat Chapter), who completed his Ph.D. studies from Homi Bhabha National Institute—Institute for Plasma Research, was honored with the J.B. Joshi Innovation Award 2022 by Homi Bhabha National Institute for his doctoral research work, “Investigations on Weldability of Aluminide Coated 9Cr Steel.” The award consists of a citation and a cash prize and is given to one student each year whose thesis work involves an innovation-driven approach to directly address an application. Nominations are reviewed in a two-step process by a committee and shortlisted candidates are interviewed through a presentation for final selection. The award was conferred during HBNI Foundation Day, June 3. During his tenure as a student member and research scholar, Zala received extensive support in his experimental work from several ASM Gujarat Chapter members including Ragesh Bateriwala, Prof. Vishvesh Badheka, and Pathik Gopani. Student Outreach: For achievements in the increase of student attendance/participation at Chapter meetings, success in hosting an ASM Materials Student Camp, K-12 outreach event, or engagement of a local Material Advantage Student Chapter. • ASM Bangalore • ASM Chennai • ASM Pune • ASM Cleveland Young Professional Engagement: For achievements in actively engaging the young professional demographic within the Chapter’s boundaries, and/or successfully increasing the volunteer involvement of young professionals in Chapter events or operations. • ASM Brandywine Valley A.V. Rama Rao (le ), founder and managing director, Avra Laboratories Pvt. Ltd., and former director, IICT Hyderabad, presented the award to Arunsinh Zala.
