The flower beds became overgrown through the years, requiring significant attention to bring them back to their original form. ASM President Judith Todd, FASM, provides backgroundon the refurbishment project, “The EisenmanMemorial Mineral Garden is an iconic feature of ASM International that is enjoyed by all who visit the Dome. To preserve this important part of our heritage, the board has approved allocation of funds from the Eisenman trust for master gardeners to care for the garden in perpetuity. Working from the original plans, the garden has been given a complete renovation with new plantings and colorful displays. The board was delighted to see the spectacular results at our strategic planning meeting in July. Be sure to stop by and admire the garden next time you are in the area!” Chelsea Flower Garden in Middlefield, Ohio, has been working for over a year to return the gardens back to their original luster. Master gardener Juan Vazquez explained that they studied the original blueprints and have replanted some of the original types of plants that were in the garden when it was first installed. He’s also added more plants that are native to Ohio. Some perennials include tulips, black-eyed Susans, hydrangeas, honeysuckle, and hibiscus. Planters of annuals add additional splashes of color. Vazquez commented, “When people visit the building, they can enjoy the beauty of the flowers, which now have also brought the butterflies.” ASM Vice President David Williams, FASM, adds to that sentiment: “As an avid gardener myself, I know the importance of a beautiful garden to enhance the work environment and as a place to relax. Everyone at the Dome—staff and visitors alike—should be able to enjoy the garden as it was originally conceived.” The garden also contains more than 60 different raw minerals in their natural rock form.
