I have been actively involved in numerous packag- ing-related technical solutions, and focusing on the quality and reliability of electronic packages, gaining a fundamen- tal understanding of failure modes and failure mechanisms of electronic packages, developing new tools and tech- niques for fault isolation and failure analysis of 3D electronic packages. Are you actively engaged with ASM or its affiliates? In addition to being an ASM member, I have been a member of the organizing committee for the International Symposium for Testing and Failure Analysis since 2011 and a board member of the Electronic Device Failure Analysis Society since 2019. Miller, P.E., FASM IMR Test Labs Brett Miller is the technical direc- tor in charge of metallurgical failure analysis at IMR Test Labs—Louisville, a subsidiary of Curtiss-Wright Surface Technologies. He has performed thou- sands of industrial failure analyses for clients in aerospace, refinery, power generation, pipeline, transportation, and litigation. In addition, Miller takes a leading role in training new failure analysts andmaterials scientists. He has taught ASM failure analysis courses and other metallurgical content at local, national, and international levels. He is a licensed professional engineer in Kentucky and Wisconsin, as well as an American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector (CWI). He is a Fellow of ASM International and a Curtiss-Wright Technical Fellow. Serving as the author or editor of numerous failure analysis publications including technical papers, journal articles, book chapters, and technical books, Miller was most recently a volume co-editor, division editor, contribut- ing author, and peer reviewer for the new ASM Handbook, Volume 11, Failure Analysis and Prevention, and the upcom- ing Volume 11A, Analysis and Prevention of Component and Equipment Failures. He was the editor of the third edition of Donald Wul- pi’s Understanding How Components Fail, a contributor and author for the 2002 edition of Volume 11, and an editorial review board member and peer reviewer for the Journal of Failure Analysis and Prevention. Active in the ASM Failure Analysis Society (FAS), Miller is currently a board member of FAS and serves on several subcommittees. In the prior failure analysis committee, he held the offices of both chair and vice chair and helped organize annual failure analysis symposia for over 20 years. He has been both the chair and vice chair of the Bluegrass Chapter of ASM International. Here are some remembrances of Prem Aurora. From left: Prem Aurora attended Leadership Days at ASM Headquarters in 2015 along with Ashok Tiwari, Suhas Sabnis, Ravi Ravindran, and Sampath Kumar. “In Prem Aurora’s passing, I lost a dear brother in my ASM family. I met Prem in 1990 during a visit to the ASM community in Mumbai, India, and a lifelong friendship blos- somed. He was a young ASMer beaming with enthusiasm, a true disciple of the legendary Harsukh M. Mehta. Anytime I needed a task to be carried out, Harsukhbhai directed me to Prem. Indeed, Premunderstood the potential for the growth of ASM in India and South Asia. His efforts resulted in phe- nomenal membership growth and a dynamic expansion of chapter activities. He initiated the Heat Treat show in Mum- bai (1991), and its success resulted in the biennial MET+HTS (materials engineering technology conference and heat treat show) International Event in Mumbai.
