Most of us have been affected both personally and profes- sionally, and I hope everyone contin- ues to be safe until we all get through this. Over the past year, I have been amazed at how many of our members continue to volunteer their time and knowledge to help ASM and the materials industry continue to grow. Thank you! Like most organizations in 2021, we have had to cut back on spending and make sure we’re only focusing on the most important projects while the economy begins its recovery. As we look at how to prioritize our efforts at the Dome, I am reminded of a saying I first heard from Dr. Fred Schmidt, FASM, a former ASM President: “ASM stands for Always Serve Members!” We use that phrase to help guide what we do. If you’re involved in a Chapter, you probably noticed that we rolled out new Chapter websites. These new sites were designed by Chapter leaders to make it easier to share information about their events and are tied into ASM Con- nect to help increase collaboration. If you’re not involved with your local Chapter, please consider participating. They are an excellent resource for your local area and now with the addition of virtual meetings, an excellent international resource as well. Our Digital Library is also continuing its steady growth. We recently released a new ASM Handbook, Volume 24 on additivemanufacturing processes, andmade updates to the Handbook on failure analysis and prevention. We also took our top 50 technical books and added them to the Digital Library. Check back often as we are always adding new con- tent to the Library. Education is another area where we continue to serve our members. In-person classes were not available in 2020, but we just held our first hybrid class with a few students at the Dome and a few students online. We are adding many new hybrid classes and developing new digital short courses. Take a look at our website for the schedule of upcoming classes. Our Events team is working hard to provide you with an excellent virtual experience for AeroMat (May 24-26) and for the International Thermal Spray Conference (May 24-28). For these two conferences, more than 300 researchers and experts will present their work, and we will have a virtual exhibit hall and many networking opportunities. Consider attending to engage and interact with your colleagues from around the world. Lastly, we are working on two new projects: revamp- ing the ASM website to make it easier to interact with ASM and maximize the value you get from your membership; and building our Data Ecosystem, a new offering designed to help you take advantage of materials data and analytics within your organization. As always, I welcome your feedback. Let me knowwhat you’re thinking.
