The award was created in recognition of Surface Combustion’s 100-Year Anniversary in 2015. The winning young profes- sional will best exemplify the ethics, education, ingenuity, and future leadership of our industry. Deadline for nomi- nations is February 1, 2021. HTS MEMBERS NAMED 2020 ASM AWARDEES AND FELLOWS The Heat Treating Society is pleased to announce that several of its members have been named a recipient of a 2020 ASM Award or have joined the newest Class of Fel- lows. Congratulations to all! Distinguished Life Membership Mr. George F. Vander Voort, FASM, consultant, Vander Voort Con- sulting LLC, Wadsworth, Ill., will re- ceive this year’s award “for being the world’s leading authority and source for knowledge in the field of metallog- raphy, specimen preparation, selec- tive etching and tint etching, interpre- tation and measurement of micro- structures, and fractography.” Distin- guished Life Membership was established in 1954 and is conferred on those leaders who have devoted their time, knowledge, and abilities to the advancement of the mate- rials industries. The award is among the most prestigious of the Society. It is expected that all nominees will be truly outstanding. ASM Fellows Prof. Pamir Alpay, FASM, Execu- tive Director, GE Professor of Advanced Manufacturing, University of Connecti- cut, Storrs. His citation reads, “For ex- ceptional contributions and leadership in materials theory, computational ma- terials science, and multiscale materi- als modeling towards an understanding of aerospace alloys, functional materials, and surface properties.” Mr. Robert Goldstein, FASM, Director of Engineering, Fluxtrol Inc., Auburn Hills, Mich. His citation reads, “For seminal work on induction heat treating applications, making signifi- cant contributions to diverse areas such as human health, space exploration and materials processing.” Dr. Janez Grum, FASM, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering – Retired, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. His citation reads, “For sustained contri- butions in metallurgical research and technologies, including nondestructive testing, failure analysis, and laser pro- cessing of steel and other engineering alloys.” Mr. Luis Leon, FASM, Associate Technical Fellow, The Boeing Com- pany, Seattle. His citation reads, “For expertise as a materials technology expert and mentor who pioneered utili- zation of advanced materials and pro- cesses to improve the performance of high temperature commercial aircraft propulsion support systems.” Dr. Virginia Osterman, FASM, Senior Scientist, Solar Atmospheres Inc., Souderton, Pa.
