How is the capture of critical data or linkage to metadata restricting the ability to maximize the benefit of generated materials data? What developments would enable this capture/linkage? We hope to start a constructive dialogue across diverse organizations and establish goals that will serve all the engaged groups. One of the main goals of this workshop is to assess the need for a roadmap for the future of Real- World Application of Digital Thread Technology. International Metallographic Contest Deadline: September 4 The International Metallographic Contest (IMC), an annual contest cosponsored by the International Metallo- graphic Society (IMS) and ASM International to advance the science of microstructural analysis, will be held at IMAT in Cleveland, September 14-17. Five different classes of com- petition cover all fields of optical and electron microscopy: Class 1: Light Microscopy—All Materials Class 2: Electron Microscopy—All Materials Class 3: Student Entries—All Materials (Undergraduate Students Only) Class 4: Artistic Microscopy (Color)—All Materials Class 5: Artistic Microscopy (Black & White)— All Materials Best-In-Show receives the most prestigious award available in the field of metallography, the Jacquet-Lucas Award, which includes a cash prize of $3000. For a complete description of the rules, tips for creating a winning entry, and judging guidelines, visit metallography.net. Alloy Digest Transitions to the Future ASM International is proud to announce the launch of Alloy Digest within the ASM Digital Library, which is scheduled for late July 2020. The launch is occurring shortly after a tran- sition in the editor role and an increase in the monthly data sheet output. Alloy Digest has been pub- lished continuously since Sep- tember 1952, when it was launched by Engineering Alloys Digest Inc. (Montclair, N.J.) as a looseleaf data sheet publi- cation. Each monthly issue consisted of about eight one or two-page data sheets, each providing easy-to-compare data on the composition, properties, processing characteristics, and applications of an industrially important alloy. That content and publishing model remained consistent over the next several decades. In 1996, ASM International acquired the Alloy Digest- publication and its archive. ASM immediately undertook the project to digitize the backfile. ASM has offered the digital archive in various formats over the past 25 years while also sustaining the monthly print publication. Dennis Rahoi, a consulting metal- lurgist with CCM 2000 (Iron Mountain, Mich.), served as Editor of Alloy Digest from the 1990s until his retirement from that post in December 2019. The Editor selects data sheets for coverage and adapts and standardizes the pre- sentation of alloy data from producer literature and other sources. The over- all body of coverage grew by more than 40% during Rahoi’s tenure and now comprises nearly 6300 sheets covering all varieties of steels, nonferrous alloys, and specialty materials. ASM is grateful to Rahoi for his excellent leadership of the publication for three decades. The new Alloy Digest Editor, as of January 2020, is Alok Nayar, a metal- lurgical consultant with more than 30 years of experience in alloy selection and standardization. He has published several books on metals selection and testing, including The Steel Handbook (Tata McGraw-Hill, India, 2002). In addi- tion to his work on Alloy Digest, Nayar has created updates for standards data in Alloy Finder, one of the key resources in the ASM Alloy Center Database. He has also collaborated with the ASM edi- torial and production team to update the format of the Alloy Digest data sheets, to make alloys even easier to compare at a glance while retaining the basic organizational structure that has been tried and true for more than 60 years. In addi- tion, Nayar and ASM have increased the number of new and updated data sheets published eachmonth fromeight to 10. With its launch in the ASM Digital Library, Alloy Digest will—for the first time—be available as a fully searchable, up-to-date digital archive as well as a digital periodical with regular monthly updates. Alloy Digest will be joining ASM Handbooks Online, ASM Technical Books, and the ASM Fail- ure Analysis Database in the interactive ASM Digital Library. Additional resources are scheduled to be added to the plat- form in 2020 and 2021. Individual and institutional subscription options are available for Alloy Digest in the ASM Digital Library. Sub- scribers to the ASM Alloy Center Database will continue to be able to search and retrieve past data sheets in that plat- form and also will receive complimentary access to the new ASM Digital Library version.
