Although unable to attend the awards dinner, he was cited “for seminal contributions in the field of materials sci- ence and engineering applied to innova- tive biomedical materials and coatings to replace and regenerate tissue and organs that lost their functionality.” Mantovani is director of the Biomaterials Lab at Laval University in Quebec City, Canada. ASM Silver Medal Award Dr. Jeremy E. Schaffer, gave an acceptance speech after receiving the ASM Silver Medal Award in Portland last October. He was cited “for marked contributions in the medical wire field through alloy design and process- structure-function interplay, for win- some and engaging technical commu- nication and mentorship, and dedicated service to the materials community.” Schaffer is senior research & development engineer in Materi- als Science and Engineering at Fort Wayne Metals, Ind.
