Erichsen, FASM, of Los Altos, Calif., passed away on July 14 at age 99. He was born in 1919, a native of Mountain View, Calif. He graduated from Stanford in 1944 in metallur- gical engineering, then was employed by Joshua Hendy Ironworks/Westinghouse in Sunnyvale. As manager of material and processes engineering, Erichsen developed specialized alloys that were designed for unique projects as well as large government contracts. Over his 39-year career span, Erichsen was instrumental in manufacturing many special projects such as “the world’s largest machine.” Built in the mid-50’s, the Tullahoma wind tunnel was driven by four electric motors with a combined 216,000 horsepower. Erichsen was a Special Lifetime Member of ASM since 1944 and served on the ASM Board of Trustees, 1974-77. He received the ASM Fellow Award in 1970, as part of the inaugural class. He also was a life member of the American Welding Soci- ety and received the AWS National Meritorious Award in 1984. Carl E. McLaughlin, Sr., of Freeland, Mich., died on September 13, 2015, at age 88. He was born on August 2, 1927, in Saginaw and resided in that area all his life. He was valedictorian of the Arthur Hill Technical School Class of 1945. McLaughlin received a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from General Motors Institute in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army at Aberdeen Proving Ground during the Korean War. McLaughlin worked as a chemist and plant metallurgist for the Saginaw Steering Gear Division of General Motors, and retired after 42 years. He was a member of the ASM Saginaw Valley Chapter. Peter R. Paul, Sr., age 90, of Flint, Mich., passed away on August 6, 2018, at University Liv- ing in Ann Arbor. He was born in Flint on January 23, 1928, and has resided in the Flint area his entire life. Paul served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean War. He had been employed by General Motors AC Division until his retirement in 1993. He was a member of the ASM Saginaw Valley Chapter. Raymond R. Woodman of Fenton, Mich., formerly of Detroit, passed away on February 16 of this year at McLaren Regional Medical Center in Flint. He was 89. He graduated from Detroit Southwestern High School in 1947 and attended the Detroit Institute of Technology. Woodman devoted his working life as a chemist in the automotive industry. He was a member of the ASM Saginaw Valley Chapter.
