He was named a Mate- rials Research Soci ety Fellow in April and is the first faculty member at UCF to be selected. In June, he received the Lee Hsun Lecture Award from the Chi- nese Academy of Sciences Institute of Metal Research. He will travel to China to give a series of lectures and accept the award. Seal’s work blends engineering, materials science, and nanotechnology for applications in medicine, space, and the environment. Perdomo Honored by AWS Jorge J. Perdomo of Kingwood, Texas, is a 2019 recipient of the Coun- selor Award Class of 2019 by the Amer- ican Welding Society (AWS). Perdomo, of Motiva Enterprises LLC in Houston, is recognized for a career of distinguished organizational and technical leader- ship that has enhanced the image and impact of the welding industry. The awards ceremony will take place at the AWS annual meeting to be held in Chicago on November 11, which coincides with the society’s 100th anniversary celebration. Perdomo holds a B.Sc. in metallurgy from Universidad Simon Bolivar, Cara- cas, Venezuela, and a Ph.D. inmetallurgy fromCase Western Reserve University, Cleveland. MIT Applauds Allanore Antoine Allanore of the depart- ment of materials science and engi- neering at MIT received the Elsevier Atlas Award on May 15. He also won third place for best conference pro- ceedings manuscript at the TMS Annual Meeting and Exhibition on March 14. Every quarter, the MIT School of Engineering publicly recognizes fac- ulty achievements by highlighting the honors, prizes, and medals won by those working in its aca- demic departments, labs, and centers. Allanore, a member of the ASM Boston Chapter, was recognized by MIT in July for his recent accomplishments. Congratulations to these ASM Chapters celebrating milestones of serving local members! IN MEMORIAM George Ayer Bradley, FASM, of Trumbull, Conn., a lifetime member of ASM International, passed away on October 1, 2017. He was born in Holyoke, Mass., achieved the rank of Eagle Scout at age 13, and received a scholarship to the prestigious St. George’s School in Middletown, R.I. He graduated from MIT in 1952 with a degree in metallurgical engineering. Bradley was the technical director for the Bridgeport Brass Co. where he had a long and successful career. He also worked as a consultant for many years before retiring. Charles Gabriel Interrante, FASM, an ASM Life Member, died on May 21 at age 82. He spent more than 40 years of his career as ametallurgical engineer at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), where he made breakthroughs in the advancement of science and the storage of nuclear waste. Prior to NIST, he worked at the U.S. Steel Research Laboratory. Interrante received a Ph.D. from Lehigh University in 1963. He served in the U.S. Army and was appointed reserve commissioned officer, second lieutenant in 1962. He also served as a Ph.D. lieutenant in the Army at Frankford Arsenal in Philadelphia form 1963-1965. He was a fellow of both ASM International and ASTM International. Perdomo Allanore
