Gilbert (Gil) Kaufman has a background of more than 60 years in the aluminum industry as well as in scientific and technical informa- tion database and data distribution technologies, and remains an active consultant in both areas. In 1997, he retired as vice president of technology for the Aluminum Association Inc. and is currently president of his consulting company, Kaufman Associates. Earlier in his career, he spent 26 years with the Aluminum Company of America and five years with Atlantic Richfield where he was vice president of research, development, and engineering. He also served as president and CEO of the National Materials Property Data Network, establishing a worldwide online network of more than 25 materials databases. Kaufman is a Fellow and Life Member of ASM Inter- national. During his 66 years as an ASM member, he has served on and chaired several technical committees related to materials data and publication policy. He has published more than 125 articles and seven books on aluminum alloys and materials data systems, all of the books published with ASM International. Kaufman has also contributed to chap- ters and articles in several volumes in the ASM Handbook series and most recently served as co-volume editor of ASM Handbook, Volume 2A: Aluminum Science and Technology and ASM Handbook, Volume 2B: Properties and Selection of Aluminum Alloys. Kaufman is also a Fellow and Honorary Member of ASTM. Shape Memory and Superelasticity Journal Accepted for Indexing by Scopus The editorial staff of Shape Mem- ory and Superelasticity: Advances in Science and Technology is pleased to announce that the journal has been accepted for indexing by Scopus. Shape Memory and Superelasticity is the official journal of the International Organization on Shape Memory and Superelastic Technologies (SMST). Scopus is a source-neutral abstract and citation database curated by independent subject matter experts. Indexing by Scopus is considered an important step toward acceptance by Clarivate for listing in the Science Citation Index Expanded and an Impact Factor. Shape Memory and Superelasticity publishes original peer-reviewed papers that focus on shape memory mate- rials research with contributions from materials science, experimental and theoretical mechanics, physics with cog- nizance of the chemistry, underlying phases, and crystallog- raphy. It also provides a forum for researchers, scientists, and engineers of varied disciplines to access information about shape memory materials. Hüseyin Sehitoglu, University of Illinois at Urba- na-Champaign, has served as editor-in-chief since the journal’s inception in 2015. Associate editors include Tom Duerig, Confluent Medical Technologies; Dimitris Lagoudas, Texas A&M University; Yinong Liu, The University of Western Australia; Hans Jurgen Maier, Leibniz Universität Hannover; Shuichi Miyazaki, University of Tsukuba; Petr Sittner, Acad- emy of Sciences of the Czech Republic; and Thomas Waitz, University of Vienna. International Materials Reviews Journal Increases Impact Factor by 66% The 2018 Impact Fac- tors have been released in the 2019 Journal Citation Reports (Clarivate Analyt- ics, 2019). International Materials Reviews ( IMR ), which ASM co-owns with The Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (pub- lished on the societies’ behalf by Taylor & Fran- cis), has a 2018 Impact Factor of 21.086, a signif- icant 66% increase over the 2017 result of 12.703. The 2017 Impact Factor itself increased 48% over the 2016 Impact Factor of 8.605. IMR is ranked 10/293 in the Materials Science, Multi- disciplinary category. The 2018 Journal Impact Factor is the ratio of citations during 2018 of articles published in a spe- cific journal in 2016 and 2017 divided by the total number of citable items published by that journal in 2016 and 2017. Impact Factor is a widely noted metric that can strongly influence decisions by researchers (where to submit their papers) and institutions (which journals to keep in subscrip- tion packages).
