Attendees included five past, present, or future ASM International presidents, three current local uni- versity materials students, and 13 chapter chairs. The event was held on the 100th anniversary of the Chapter’s first meeting in the same building, the historic Bellevue Hotel in downtown Philadelphia. Gala attendees were treated to a four-course menu reminiscent of fine dining from the early 1900s, including lobster and Chateaubriand. Tuxedos and formal dresses were donned by many guests. A quartet from the University of Pennsylvania Glee Club provided entertainment. The technical program included three talks addressing the past, present, and future of the materials engineering field. Previous chapter chair Craig Clauser, FASM, provided a nostalgic look at the chapter, including background on the chapter’s Eisenman and Sauveur awards. Bill Mahoney, CEO of ASM Interna- tional, reviewed the Society’s recent history and status of the renewal program. The featured speaker was Dr. David Furrer, FASM, ASM president, who described how model- ing and microstructures contribute to using big data in the advanced design of materials. During the event, it was announced that over $78,000 had been raised for the Chapter Centennial Scholarship Fund. The three gold level donors were recognized that night—Rex Heat Treat, Laboratory Testing, and Solar Atmospheres. Cleveland Honors BWXT Materials Engineers Materials engineers from the Nuclear Operations Group-Euclid (NOG-E) of BWXT Technologies Inc. in Cleve- land were recently recognized by the local chapter for their service to ASM International. BWXT materials engineer Joe Snyder received a Chapter President’s Award and BWXT NOG-E received the Chapter Company Outstanding Service Award for contributions from their employees. “Maintaining a close working relationship with technical societies such as ASM is mutually beneficial because it helps our employees refresh and grow their skills and foster a strong technical community to drive innovation and develop the next gener- ation of scientists and engineers,” said NOG-E General Man- ager Chris Rhodes. Enjoying the Liberty Bell’s festivities are Centennial Committee co-chair John Janiszewski, past ASM president Gernant Maurer, current ASM president David Furrer, and ASMmanager of membership and chapters Nicole Hale.
