The awards program recognizes achievements of members of the materials science and engineering com- munity. Awards will be presented at ASM’s annual Awards Dinner, October 1, in Portland, Ore., during Materials Sci- ence & Technology 2019 (MS&T19). Tickets for the awards dinner can be ordered by using the MS&T registration form. Those interested in purchasing a table may contact Christine Hoover at 440.338.5444 or christine.hoover@ asminternational.org. Honorary Membership Prof. Gregory B. Olson, FASM, Walter P. Murphy Professor, North- western University, Evanston, Ill., will receive this year’s award “for pioneer- ing contributions to the fields of mate- rials design and phase transformations and integrating design into materials education.” Honorary Membership in the Society was established in 1919 to recognize distinguished service to the materials science and engineering profession, ASM strategic plan and initiatives, and the progress of mankind. Gold Medal Prof. David N. Seidman, FASM, Walter P. Murphy Professor, North- western University, Evanston, Ill., will receive this year’s award “for the application of field-ion microscopy and atom-probe tomography to solve a very broad range of materials problems, and for contributions to a deep under- standing of behavior of fine structures through a combination of first principle calculations, quanti- tative analysis, and groundbreaking microscopy.” The medal was established in 1943 to recognize outstanding knowledge and great versatility in the application of science to the field of materials science and engineering, as well as exceptional ability in the diagnosis and solution of diversified materials problems. Engineering Materials Achievement Award Dr. Christopher DellaCorte, senior technologist, tribology and rotating machinery, NASA Glenn Research Center, Cleveland, Mr. Craig W. Bond, president, Abbott Ball Co., and Dr. Ronald D. Noebe, materi- als research engineer, NASA Glenn Research Center, will receive this year’s award for the “development and commercialization of NiTi alloys for corrosion resistant, high load capacity bearing, gear and mechanical component applications.” Established in 1969, this award recognizes an outstanding achievement in materials or materials systems relating to the application of knowledge of materials to an engineering structure or to the design and manufacture of a product. Albert Sauveur Achievement Award Dr. Sudipta Seal, FASM, director Nano Tech Center, AMPAC, materials science and engineering, University of Central Florida, Orlando, will receive this year’s award “for outstanding research in the field of multivalent oxide fabrication in nanoscale through defect modulation, its application and technology commercialization, and providing prominent leadership in ad- vancing the materials and nanotechnology profession and education.” Established in 1934 in honor of a distinguished teacher, metallographer, and metallurgist, the award rec- ognizes pioneering materials science and engineering achi- evements that have stimulated organized work along simi- lar lines to such an extent that a marked basic advance was made in the knowledge of materials science and engineering.
