Winners were chosen by an internation- al committee of expert judges. Each paper was reviewed and evaluated on its merits for sci- entific and engineering content, originality, and presentation style. The JTST Editorial Board and the ASM Thermal Spray Society Executive Board of Direc- tors extend their congratulations to the winning authors: Journal of Thermal Spray Technology Volume 27 Best Paper Award “Evaluation of Heat Transfer Transport Coefficient for Cold Spray Through Computational Fluid Dynamics and Par- ticle In-Flight Temperature Measurement Using a High-Speed IR Camera” by Aleksandra Nastic and Bertrand Jodoin, Cold Spray Research Laboratory, University of Ottawa. Journal of Thermal Spray Technology Volume 27 Honorable Mention Award “Novel Method of Aluminum to Copper Bonding by Cold Spray” by Si-Lin Fu, Cheng-Xin Li, Ying-KangWei, Xiao-Tao Luo, Guan-Jun Yang, and Chang-Jiu Li, School of Materials Science and Engineering, Xi’an Jiaotong University; and Jing-Long Li, School of Materials Science and Engineering, Northwestern Polytechnical University in China. ITSC 2019 BEST PAPER AWARD Julio Villafuerte made the presentation of the ITSC Best Paper awards. The panel of 31 international judges reviewed 165 proceedings papers and rated their excellence on scientif- ic merit, originality, presentation, and usefulness. This year’s review resulted in a tie. One of the awards was for the paper “Bioinspired Me- chanically Robust Metal-based Water Repellent Surface en- abled by Scalably Constructing a Flexible Coral-Reef Like Cu based Architecture.” The presenting author was Xiao-Tao Luo fromXi’an Jiaotong University, along with co-author Professor Chang-Jiu Li. The second winning paper was entitled “Metal Matrix Composites using Surface Modified Particles Fabricated by Cold Spray Technique.” The presenting author was Nana Okimura, from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, along with co-authors Wataru Nakayama, Yuki Hirata, Naoto Ohtake, and Hiroki Akasaka. SEEKING NOMINATIONS FOR THERMAL SPRAY HALL OF FAME The Thermal Spray Hall of Fame, established in 1993 by the Thermal Spray Society of ASM Internation- al, recognizes and honors outstanding leaders who have made significant contributions to the science, technolo- gy, practice, education, management, and advancement of thermal spray. For a copy of the rules, nomination form, and list of previous recipients, visit tss.asminter- national.org or contact maryanne.jerson@asminterna- tional.org. Nominations are due September 30. 4 TS4E HEADS TO BOUCHERVILLE The ever popular Ther- mal Spray of Suspensions & Solutions Symposium +EBCS (TS4E) makes a return appear- ance this year, with expand- ed programming. Scheduled for September 17-18 in Boucherville, Quebec, at the National Research Council of Canada (NRC), this sym- posium is a chance for scientists and engineers interested in the emerging S&STS technologies to address both research challenges and development of industrial applications. This year, EBCs and CMCs are added to the list of topics that will be covered. The two-day event includes 30-minute presentations, tabletop exhibits, roundtable discussions, three-minute ele- vator pitches, and a networking dinner. Registration fees are extremely reasonable due to generous in-kind support from NRC, Polycontrols, and Tecnar. Visit asminternational.org/ web/ts4e-2019/home to learnmore. OERLIKON METCO YOUNG PROFESSIONALS AWARD The Oerlikon Metco Young Professionals Award was pre- sented by Richard Schmid, CTO. The 2019 winner was Shala- ka Vilas Shinde, from the Center for Thermal Spray Research, Stony Brook University, N.Y., for her paper “Onset and Propa- gation of Segmentation Cracks in Air Plasma Sprayed Ceram- ics: In-situ Observations and Mechanistic Descriptions.” SOCIETY NEWS
