October 15-17 Detroit Cobo Center ORGANIZED BY: asminternational.org/heattreat • KEYNOTE SESSIONS TUESDAY, OCTOBER 15 | 8:00 – 8:45 A.M. George Krauss, FASM, University Emeritus Professor Colorado School of Mines Heat Treated Carbon Steels: Great Versatility, Excellent Performance, but Beware of Embrittlements Low-alloy carbon steels quenched to martensite and tempered provide many excellent combinations of strength and fracture resistance, depending on carbon content and tempering temperature. This presentation will address embrittlement phenomena that cause brittle intergranular fracture between prior austenite grains. The microstructural components and conditions that produce good mechanical performance and those that reduce performance by intergranular fracture will be discussed. WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 16 | 1:00 - 1:45 P.M. Jack Harris, Chairman, IMS International Technology Risks for Small to Medium Sized Manufacturers Adoption of advanced manufacturing technology is essential for small-to-medium-sized manufacturers (SMEs) to remain competitive and relevant to global supply chains. SMEs may not realize which technologies will benefit their processes or have the necessary resources and skilled workforce for successful implementation. Session attendees will acquire an understanding of the challenges and where to find solutions. THURSDAY, OCTOBER 17 | 1:30 - 2:30 P.M. Prof. Marco Taisch, Vice President, World Manufacturing Foundation, Politecnico di Milano WMF Global Manufacturing Report This report is the culmination of a worldwide survey of industry leaders to understand the direction of manufacturing and the challenges that may evolve.
