Deacon, announces the nominees for ASM vice president and trustee for 2019-20 and three members of the Board of Trustees for 2019-22. In accordance with the ASM Constitution, these nom- inees will be voted on at the ASM Annual Business Meeting on September 30, during MS&T19 in Portland, Ore. Once elected, the vice president will automatically become ASM president for 2020-21. In accordance with Article IV, Sec- tion 3, of the ASM Constitution, the ASM Board of Trust- ees has also announced its nominee for ASM Treasurer for 2019-2020. Officers and members of the Board who will continue in office for 2019-2020 include: Dr. Zi-Kui Liu, FASM, who will become president in October; Dr. David U. Furrer, FASM, who will serve as immediate past president; and trustees Prem K. Aurora, Dr. Thomas M. Moore, FASM, Dr. Judith A. Todd, FASM, Prof. Diana A. Lados, FASM, Dr. Jason T. Sebastian, FASM, and Lawrence A. Somrack. Retiring from the Board at this year’s Annual Business Meeting will be immediate past president Dr. Frederick E. Schmidt, P.E., FASM, and trustees Larry D. ASM NEWS About the President-Elect and Board Nominees Dr. Zi-Kui Liu, FASM Dr. Zi-Kui Liu is a distinguished professor ofmaterials scienceandengi- neering at The Pennsylvania State Uni- versity. He obtained his B.S. from Cen- tral South University (China), M.S. from University of Science and Technology Beijing, and Ph.D. fromKTH Royal Insti- tute of Technology (Sweden). He was a research associate at University of Wis- consin-Madison and a senior research scientist at QuesTek Innovations LLC. He has been at Penn State since 1999 and served as editor-in-chief of CALPHAD journal since 2001. Liu is a Fellow of ASM International and has been a member of the ASM International Board of Trust- ees and the TMS Board of Directors. He served as vice chair and chair of the ASM Alloy Phase Diagram (APD) Committee and established the annual Phase Stability and Diffusion Kinetics symposium at MS&T sponsored by the ASM APD Committee. Liu received the ASM J. Willard Gibbs Phase Equilibria Award, TMS William Hume-Rothery Award, ACerS Spriggs Phase Equilibria Award, and the Lee Hsun Lecture Award from the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Acad- emy of Sciences. Liu’s current research activities are centered on first-principles calculations, modeling of thermodynamic and kinetic properties, and their integration in understand- ing defects, phase stability, and phase transformations, and designing and tailoring materials processing and proper- ties. He has published over 500 scientific papers in peer-re- viewed journals. He also was the cofounder and director of the NSF Industry/University Cooperative Research Center for Computational Materials Design. Liu teaches thermodynamics of materials to graduate students and phase transformations to undergraduate stu- dents at Penn State. He was the recipient of Penn State’s Faculty of the Year Award (selected by MSE students) and Liu
